I was homeless for a while but tbh never really got close to starving. It was actually kind of weird the way I would just find food sometimes.

However I did spend a few months where I physically could barely eat because of pain in my esophagus. I dropped from 200 lbs. to 130 lbs.

maybe when i was younger i had circumstances that panned out that way.
even gave up having video game purchases for a month just so my dog could eat.

i call all the bad times as "hell month". there's even a "hell month" 2.0 where i had to also cover my dogs "aural hematoma" on a bad month.

400$ for the operation (learned something that dogs can bust blood vessels in ears if they scratch em too hard).

Back when I used to have a family I would give them pretty much all my money. There were times when I was out on the road with 0 dollars to my name. Nabbing hotel breakfasts and saving extras was a good way to keep going. Bagels and peanut butter were great for that. Cheap hot dogs and bouillon for soups is another cheap way to stay afloat.

So I don't know that I'd say I ever went hungry, but definitely I've had to resort to very very cheap food.

The state doesn't provide enough for a single disabled mom with 3 kids to regularly provide food, never mind good food. We had a lot of creative "food" eating growing up.

I suppose for instance, around Jewish holidays matzo would go on sale like 2.99 for 10 boxes or whatever, so we would stock up for the year, because spreading some butter on matzo was kind of like toast in the morning, or whatever. Cheap meal substitute. Lots of things like that.

No. Closest I got a couple of times was that I could barely afford rent. Always bounced back though, because I aim to not spend more than I need to, including on food (as long as it's healthy and tasty, which doesn't have to be pricey at all).

I also have support if I really needed a meal. I just didn't reach out to them because it was long enough to warrant it.
