Dunno if you guys remember me talking about my brother getting sent to the hospital a few years ago.

It happened again a few days ago.

I thought he was getting better. The doctor prescribed lowering his meds, so we thought he was getting better.

But then a month after the new regimen he started having moments where he would laugh and mumble to himself out of nowhere, and seemingly respond to someone talking in his head. It sounds bad when I type it out like that but other than the occasional laughing fits, he was completely normal. Able to hold a conversation, can still do his online business and stuff like that.

But then the laughing fits kept increasing in frequency. And then we had a big argument and then a sorta heart to heart conversation last Thursday. And then after that the following morning we noticed the laughing and talking to himself wasn't stopping. He couldn't remember details about the day when we asked him and he couldn't even focus to eat properly.

Then it escalated to him full out talking to voices in his head.

We had to send him to the ER. That was on Monday. He can only receive one visitor a day so our mom was watching him. He was getting even worse. Apparently just last night he had to be restrained because he pulled out his catheter. She asked him why he did that and he apparently doesn't even remember. And it was only JUST TODAY that the doctors decided to put him on anti-psychotics.

Sorry if the post seems like I'm rambling.

I just have a lot of thoughts right now and typing them out helps somewhat.

They were giving him lithium when he first arrived.

And it's not like he's saying he hears voices. He just sorta mumbles to himself, laughs, and responds sporadically. Easily missed if you aren't watching him constantly, which happens in the er.

Might have been the catheter incident which finally got the nurses and doctors to notice.

I hope hell be okay. Yeah, sometimes writing your feelings out makes it easier to cope with things.

Damn, that's hard on your brother and your family. I hope you guys can get some rest soon and your brother can find a medication combination that works for him as soon as possible.

So apparently they moved him to the psych ward finally.

Only problem is they didn't even call or inform us when that happened, and the psych ward doesn't allow visitors so we didn't even get to see him.

Yesterday's visit to the ER might be the last time we get to see him for a long while.

And honestly I'm not sure being in the psych ward will actually help.

Last time this happened the ward was still accepting visitors, and the ward was depressing as fuck. They basically only check in with the patient for routine vitals and meds, and basically just leave them to roam around for themselves.

And I think we can all agree that the level of mental health care in the US is shockingly low.

At least last time we could still check on him and tell him we were there. Now we couldn't even say anything before he was isolated from us.

I feel powerless. I hate this. I really do.

Can you guys not move him to a different facility? Not every facility is like that but sometimes you need to "shop" around.
