Like obviously weather, cost of living, job market, crime etc. are factors, but people seem to give me weird looks when I bring that up.

Isnt wanting to raise my Asian children around non-racists a pretty normal thing to want? I mean yes not all Trump supporters are racist and not all Biden voters arent, but wouldnt it be pretty logical to consider the voting percentage as a reflection of that citys general culture and what their values are?

Nah, I feel you.
I have to look at places before I go to see how cool they are with black people

No it's totally reasonable

I moved to a smallish town in Utah and thought "well it's ok, I'll find my tribe, there are good people everywhere and we can all just live and let live."

I was wrong. It pervades every aspect of life. You become an outsider. It took two years to make two friends. I felt immediate relief when I moved back to liberal rural Colorado, and I made friends int he first week.

And I don't care about politics at all, it's a cultural thing

Evwryones different. I'm introverted and do not care what people believe so long as it doesn't affect me in any way, shape, or form.

I wouldn't want to live around objectively awful people either. Sadly, I can't move and am surrounded by them.

I mean, at the extreme end, lynchings are still a thing in America, and racially-motivated violence is relatively common, so you're not wrong at all to want to live in a place with fewer racists.

It depends on what you're comfortable with.

Personally I get on well with Trumpers, I just make sure they accept who I am too then we can agree not to talk politics or covid.

No absolutely not.
Education of your offspring
Healthcare
Unemployment treatment
And a sense of community

All those are on the line if you chose to live in a republican idiot state/city.

Nah, if there are a ton of trumpers around they will attack the school boards and get them to quit so they can take over and push their bullshit on kids, which will most definitely cause problems with your kids.

Yes, it's weird. This is the kind of opinion you form when you constantly expose yourself to 24 hour news, garbage news media, twitter, etc. and don't interact with normal people in the real world.

Have Trump supporters actually had way different beliefs IRL this whole time? I mean, the real life ones ive interacted with pretty much spew the exact same poison that they do online.

IRL people don't spew toxic poison, they don't talk about politics very much with random strangers, they're just polite nice people.

Correct, the Trump supporter I make small talk with in line at the grocery store is very polite and nice, until he gets behind closed doors, online anonymously, into a voting booth and/or any position of power.

Yeah they do. Besides, even if they keep it to themselves in public it doesn't make them not awful people becasue they only post their horrible views on the internet. I feel like certain people think the internet isn't "real" and that things don't count when posted on it.

It's not that it isn't real, it's that the internet isn't representative of normal offline interactions.

I've heard many racist, homophobic, and other bigoted comments unsolicited because many right wingers think every other white man thinks like them. There are many accounts of these types being bigoted to minorities openly. I still don't see the difference if one keeps their awfulness to themselves or not. They still vote for a political party that does things that negatively affects many people for no good reason. Why shouldn't people not want to be around these Trump supporters?
