This website is so poignant despite being 8 years old.

But man, remember when companies were just making apps for the sake of having an app, thinking the rest would work itself out?

I worked for a smalltime local vaccuum repair shop for a summer and the owner said that he was working with a guy to develop their own app. WHY.

Nowadays they are merely vectors for marketing departments to grab more accurate user data so that they can hone and adjust their campaigns. And companies have learned to hide things like coupons behind an app download ('Hortons, 'Bucks, 'Donalds, 'Dy's, 'W, etc) to entice people with low discipline to download the app. Yknow, for a free small fries.
