BBS's gameplay devolves into you spamming thunder surge and mines to beat tough bosses. The Command Deck in general leaves a lot to be desired. The first three Disney worlds are also really meh. The worlds in the other half of the game are a lot better.

KH3 has the second best gameplay in the series and most of the Disney worlds have more going on than the BBS ones.

KH3 is the only one I have played, and it was trash. About 10 hours worth of cutscenes, that absolutely nothing happens in. The first 3/4 of the game has 0 impact on the main story at all, there is pretty much no reason to go to any of the Disney planets and their stories if you can even call them that have 0 impact on the plot.

I havent played since they released DLC, but the combat in the original game was extremely repetitive, and you get these wacky amusement power ups somehow that honestly Im not even really sure if they did anything lol. It had better combat than FF XV though, Ill give it that

Yeah BBS is pretty rough. Having not played it for years, I still remember the horribly shallow combat, unfair secret bosses, most of the worlds being the boring princess ones or ones weve seen multiple times before, boring arena, boring mini games (who wants to play a shitty 1 player Mario Party?). Its also the start of the really dumb post-KH2 plot.

Anyway, KH3 in comparison:
Plot: KH3 is much worse.
Combat: KH3 is better, but still bad.
Environments: KH3 is better, hands down. Its a shame that most of the worlds are empty and devoid of plot elements.

I would say that KH3 is better, but only by a hair. Conversely, it is much more disappointing due to being a mainline entry instead of just a spinoff.

KH3 is the first game made by the BBS team where the gameplay isn't complete and utter shit. The DLC made the combat a lot better but it's no KH2FM.

Started playing it at the end of september, and I think I'm just about at the end now. I played the crap out of the first two, but I'm pretty meh on this one. Maybe the gameplay button mashing isn't as fun as it used to be after loving souls style.

Or maybe because you need a Phd to figure out what the hell is happening in the story. The 10 minute cutscenes stuck between 2 minutes of gameplay doesn't help much either.

BbS is one of the best games in the series, despite the very obvious flaws with its mechanics and balancing. While KH3 is just outright bad.

At the very least KH3's gameplay is passable, but it really devolves into jumping around and spamming AOE attacks while waiting for the menu to give you a transformation or ability that will overpower everything around you. There's too much RNG involved, unlike KH1 and KH2 which felt like you were in control over what you wanted to do at all times (with some few minor exceptions). It's pretty fun at times, I'll give it that, but too much "style over substance."

When KH2 first came out people memed on it hard saying shit like press triangle to win. Then KH2FM came out and people praised the game. KH3 is similar. The dlc is a lot better. This gets said in basically every topic about KH3. The story still sucks however.

It was made for the PSP. That is more then forgivable all tons considered. Name mainstream, fast paced psp games with better combat off the top of your head that were better. Monster Hunter is the only one that crosses mine tbh

BBS is actually my least favorite handheld title. Even back then the fan base was so in love with it all criticism was met with copium. Edit: Eh, actually I probably like BBS more than re:coded in a normal play through. re:coded is really only good in that optional dungeon.

Re:coded did the command system and basic combos better It's a shame it's held back by all that mini game bull shit. I wouldn't know much about the combat if I didn't grind that 100 floor semi random dungeon. And while all KH stories are bad, re:coded is bad, boring, and totally pointless.

Honestly, the same can be said for level design and the difficulty as well. I never really cared for KH2, but KH3 somehow makes it look amazing in comparison.

The level design in KH3 is definitely prettier, but most of the worlds are just big empty areas that get annoying to traverse. And I would say there is a definite difficulty curve in KH3, but only on Critical Mode, and the curve is going down - Olympus and TT are hard as fuck on Critical, but after that the game becomes almost piss easy again.

And yeah, the story has some of the worst pacing and writing I've ever experienced. Almost nothing happens for the first 20 hours of the game, and then the last 3~4 hours are super rushed and unsatisfying.

The card system is very hit or miss. By the end, you feel like a god, but...that involves actually playing to the end of the game. Which a lot of people don't.

The story is one of the best, though.

Thats what always killed me with the handhelds. I loved the story in games like Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days but I couldnt stand the gameplay.

Whyyyy couldnt they have just stuck with making a high quality game on non-handheld consoles every couple of years instead of spreading the series out over a hundred different systems and utilizing obnoxious gimmicky gameplay?

I do appreciate that eventually every game in the series came to one console in some form though.

KH3's level design is pretty good, but it's a good first time experience. When I replayed the game this year to try out critical there was nothing interesting about the long zones like there was the first time I played the game. KH1's level design is timeless and great every time I replay it. In general KH3 has a loot problem. Accessories are much less interesting and exciting than in the other two games, making them not interesting to explore the levels to find. It likewise makes the synthesis system much more bothersome.

The card system is fine. Stack your deck with 9s and 0s (you can get away with maybe 7+ until you get enough 9s) and strong sleights.

I kind of enjoy the card battle system tbh.

Ftr 0s are important because they let you counter /interrupt any enemy card or sleight (combo of cards).

3 is bad because Disney meddled with what was planned for some of the worlds and gutted content, so some worlds are literally just redoing the movies without progressing the kh plot at all

My opinion from playing most games in the series...its gameplay pre patch was terrible. Proud mode was a joke, and the higher difficulty just nerfs your stats either by half like HP, or guts your MP becuase magic was busted. And jam packed with mechanics. Just becuase. Like wall running, flowmotion, and focus gauge. The latter most I'm pretty sure I never used.

Some of the world's were were above average but still inferior to KH1s, big but empty, and felt devoid of life.

And the story until endgame is just utter filler. With no reason for either you or the bad guys even having any business there.

This isn't even getting into the character assassinations of Sora, Mickey, Kairi, and xeranort.

Depends. 2.8 is just a collection of Dream Drop Distance, 0.2 Birth by Sleep (which is like 3 hours long), and the X Back Cover movie (which is an hour long).

So it's really just one game and two add-ons. That said, Dream Drop Distance is important to the story, and has some good worlds, but a lot of people don't like some aspects of the gameplay and the direction the plot went. It's one of my favorite games, though.
