With Halo Infinite coming out, I figured it was about time to upgrade my Xbox to the Series X, however it looks like it is sold out everywhere? I feel like I have seen headlines floating around that there is a big shortage of next gen consoles, but I have not been following close at all. Are scalpers just scooping up every console that comes out now, and normal people have no chance at getting one unless they pay $800+?

XBOX Series X seems like by far the hardest to get and is only getting harder to find now that retailers are getting in on the scalping game. They list the Series X for like 5 minutes every two weeks and are like ooo guess we sold out. But do you want to buy this 1000 bundle full of useless shit instead?

You have to be vigilant. I got my PS5 by paying attention to when Walmart was going to release stock, and I literally did it while on my Honeymoon on Maui with barely enough cell reception to put the order in.

I did the all access thing where you pay off the console monthly and it wasnt too hard to get. Dont imagine the systems that are saved for that program get scalped as quickly but could be wrong

(NZ) I can get a Switch or a Xbox Series S right now - well, a couple of days shipping because I live in the middle of nowhere, but apart from that - but the XBSX and both types of PS5 are only available through scalpers.

I got mine with a Black Friday sale last year.

The trick then was that they went live at 7, sold out at like 7:00:17, then all the orders mysteriously cancelled or something and I got one after I kept trying until 7:15.

Damn, is it just because of the COVID supply shortage that these consoles are so hard to get? I don't remember having any issues getting any of my other consoles in years past, especially almost a year after the release date lol

The Wii was borderline impossible to get even a year later. And the ps4 was hard to get too

The only new console thats pretty easy to get is the Series S but I can understand if you dont want to settle - the X is a much better value of course. Its worth the wait to get an X. As others have said, stay vigilant, maybe get a bundle if you have to and sell the stuff you dont want. Follow inventory trackers on twitter and be logged in and have your credit card info updated at every possible retailer so the moment they go live you have the best chance you can get.

Not impossible, but they sell out quick when they go up. If you really want one. Download the Twitter app on your phone, follow stock trackers like Jake Randall, Matt Swider , etc., (they aren't the only trackers, but they're who I followed) and keep your notifications on.

For a lot of the stock drops (some drops will be sudden though), they know ahead of time that it's coming and you just have to be ready at that time to try and get one before others do. I've been seeing the Series X in stock a lot this past month though.

It sucks, but that's how it is right now. I got my PS5 from Target that way.

I was thinking about just getting the Series S since it is available (and I don't have a 4K TV), but after looking into it I figured I would just wait till I got the X and then also upgrade my TV to a 4K over black friday.

Don't bother with the S.

The Twitter guys are your best bet, just don't give up immediately if you get a sold out screen.

Good luck. Also watch Jake's videos about the major retailers. They all have little tricks you can use. Like some retailers work better on their website instead of their app and vice versa.

Also stock releases in waves, not just all at once. So it can go from in stock to sold out, but then be in stock again 5-10 minutes later. So often times, if you get one in your cart, but you can see that the site is now saying it's out of stock, stay on that page and wait. If it goes out of stock at :34, try to go to checkout at :40 instead. I know all of this sounds super convoluted, but it works.
