spoilers for fuckin everything cause who knows what ill read.

anyways. i read the gamer a few years back, but never really got into manhwa. someone here recommended one a few weeks ago and ive pretty much read shit non stop since then. never really got into manga or western comics, dunno why manhwa appeals to me so much.

overall, i found most of them to be relatively derivative of one another. solo leveling was the second manhwa i read, and god damn if every other manhwa wasn't basically a straight up ripoff. how tf necromancy became en vogue is beyond me but w/e.

one thing I was kinda surprised by is how hypernationalistic a lot of these were. idk much about Korean cultural sentiment or their relationship with other nations, but it often seemed like the writer set up Korea to be this nation that was secretly the most powerful in the world, much to the chagrin of the rest of east Asia, china in particular.

like i said, solo leveling was the second thing i read, i liked it, and i don't feel like i need to go into further detail on that one.

tbh i cant remember the titles for half of these and i can't be assed to look them up so....

next up was

hero of return (the one where the heroes are bad, except main character guy)
tbh this kind of sucked ass in retrospect. the premise was dumb, the writing was worse, and it was edgy for edginess' sake. i like grimdark settings, but this was just stupid. "Oh no one kissed my ass when I finished my Isekai quest so imma kill everyone and make sure no one is ever happy again". Maybe this got better, idk, but it was stupid as fuck when I got caught up at like chapter 23. Posthumously redeeming the bad guys was also cringy af

Max level hero return (the one that's an Isekai)
Gonna use the kid gloves on this one cause tbh I didn't understand it. The site I read it on was missing chapters and I didn't realize that til after I got to like chapter 60 and I had no clue wtf was going on. I like the OP mc stories that give civics a spotlight, and this was good for that. Pretty solid imo.

max level hero return (the one in Korea)
tbh this one was kind of fuckin stupid. I read over 100 chapters and the plot never really went anywhere. Literally everything that happened was just an excuse to show off how 'badass' the MC was, which typically I don't mind, but the masked monarch is kind of a fuckin douche and bored the piss out of me

Solo bug player
Really liked this. Art was good, story was good. Excited to read more. I like that there's an over arching political story rather than just him being a badass mage.

worn and torn newbie
this is a fucking 10/10 for me. i love everything about this. The MC is a fucking asshole and I love it. The supporting cast is interesting, and so is the world. Art style and quality is great, just enjoyed it all around.

hero that cant level up (guy with the sentient swords)
Tbh I like this one in theory, the swords are cool and the premise is aight, but it was kinda boring

i get stronger by eating
fuck this manhwa. I finished the first arc I guess (chapter 36ish?). It's just edgy and stupid. The story is dumb, the characters are dumb, it's just fucking bad. I will say that lich dude finding religion to build an immunity to holy spells was clever though.

overgeared
arguably my favorite. literally could not stop reading this. love the characters, art, story, humor, etc. also holds the distinction of being the only one to make me literally LOL

autohunting
tbh I had super low expectations of this one and only picked it up because it was long. I was pleasantly surprised. It may be kinda stale and shouneny, but I liked its world and characters. Art style is kinda shit tho. Also, huge fuckin gripe towards the early writing. The MC is written as unambitious and lazy in the first few chapters, and suddenly all he cares about is training. Huge tonal shift, but whatev

tutorial tower of the advanced player
This one was pretty dope. Good chars, good story, good art. Excited to read more.

second coming of gluttony
okay, I have two minds about this one. The first arc was great, a dark, death game scenario, that kinda really worked for me, until the last chapter. Wtf? "We gotta get you back to earth so no one notices that you were gone". Bitch half the cast is fuckin dead and in pieces, how tf people not going to notice that?

Second arc was also really good..... But.... Completely fuckin unrelated to the first. Might as well be a different fuckin series.

dimensional mercenary
Meh. The first series I put down. Wasn't sold on the quantum leap esque premise, and the change in art style after the first arc just made me not wanna read it anymore

second life ranker
i like this, i guess. idk why. its unbearably fucking stupid, but i read 100+ chapters of it. really hope it tones down the solo leveling rip off shit. necromancy isn't as cool as you think it is, my dude

tomb raider king
currently reading this. arguably the best I've read. A solid 10/10 for me. Love everything about it, gonna be sad when I get caught up. Holds the distinction of being the only series I've read where I felt like the writer actually did some story planning before he put the pen to paper.
