I might be losing my job soon due to being unvaccinated and sounds like a lot of work places will soon be hiring only people who are vaccinated. Since finding that out I have been experiencing symptoms very similar to fibromyalgia. Just reading up on it, apparently one of the triggers are "significant psychological stress". I'm going to see a doctor about it this week, apparently the type of pain you experience too cant be detected by any scans or tests either to explain it.

Does disability pay more than regular unemployment/welfare?

Unless fibromyalgia is really extreme, there is no reason why you can't work.

I can work, I want to work. I just dont want the vaccine. Its society who wants to take that away from me and treat me like i am disabled.

How extreme do i need to present it to the doctor? Right now i just get some sore muscles the day after a workout.

Vaccinated can spread it to them too though. If those people genuinely cant be vaccinated shouldnt they keep themselves away from society instead of keeping me away? if you cant handle a vaccine, thats usually a sign you are more susceptible and at higher risk of covid. Having a medical condition or carry a doctors note explaining why you are unvaccinated doesnt make you invisible to covid

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia since I was 16 and I was unsuccessful at qualifying for disability. It's not super extreme, but I can't stand still for long hours (moving/walking is fine), lift super heavy objects, and some movement is really painful.

I'm also vaccinated, get the shot.

You'll probably be denied disability because you can actually work and you wouldn't get welfare because there is no legit reason why you can't work. You'd rather be handed money than work for it.

My late mother could barely walk and was on oxygen tanks and it took her 6 years to get it. Then she died within a year or two after.

Yeah you can, but do you need it? Like I hate admitting this but I'm on disability due to the fact that I've had three pituitary tumors and even then, I'm still trying to find a way to work that would suit me well.

Like, how often are you in pain and why not just get vaccinated.

None rn, im not diagnosed but I can see myself experiencing pains and what not if i lose my job. I dont think there are tests or scans that can verify if i am or not, they basically have to take your word for it right? Im going to the doctors this week to get everything started.

I mean, what are my other options if i dont get vaccinated? Just be left to starve and rot to death?

Damn this topic pisses me off! Disability pays less than minimum wage. The only reason you'd ever want it is if you absolutely can't work anywhere, or if you need the medical coverage. Assuming this topic is real--and I hope to god it isn't because it's so stupid--even if you could convince a doctor you have Fibro (and you surely don't), you would gain absolutely nothing by going on disability. A minimum wage job would pay you more money.

Do you know how hard people who are stuck on disability actually have it? Do you know how much they'd rather not be on it? If you can't function well enough to support yourself with work, life is grim. If you could, but can't because of hideous bills for ongoing medical treatment or medications, life is just another sort of grim. And the system makes it very hard to go back to being a productive once you get on disability. There is nothing fun about it.

If the vaccine mandate is causing you to lose your job, just get another job somewhere where there is no mandate. There are plenty of businesses hiring that are strongly conservative and don't agree with the vaccine. Or you could, you know, just get the fucking vaccine to do your part against COVID, and to make it less likely that you'll need disability for real from the poorly understood after effects of COVID.

your doctor's not gonna disable you with your presenting symptoms. and even if he/she does, the disability payor will successfully dispute it

You won't be approved for it considering you're not disabled. You're looking for any excuse to not get a shot, that's all this is.

My sister is on disability, she gets $800 a month and thats barely enough for her to live on. Granted she lives with her boyfriend who works but even then her $800 a month isn't a lot.

You get less than what you'd get from working, instead of mooching off the government because you're a selfish person who would rather make up some bullshit reason why you can't work than get a vaccine.

Unlike you, I actually have most of the symptoms of fibromyalgia more than likely due the two bad car accidents I've been in. But you don't see me applying for disability. I find odd jobs I can do for people to make money to semi support myself, my parents take care of other things for me. I choose not to mooch off the government.

I don't mooch off my parents, I do work around the house, do stuff they can't do. So no, i don't mooch off of them. They're older and can't do a lot of things so I do it.

I'm not some lazy selfish person.

Yeah I dont buy any of this for a second. That being said...

I worked for Disability Determination for over ten years. I never once allowed someone for Fibromyalgia. Also, if youre under age 50 its a lot more difficult... youd have to meet the criteria for one of the listings and there is no listing for fibromyalgia, so youd have to equal another listing. Is it impossible? Probably depends on the state and youd almost certainly only get it after you appeal. But Im not talking about TCs made up scenario here, Im talking about legitimate circumstances.

Do you find yourself jaded towards people with disabilities or sympathetic? I'm on disability, but I've actively worked my whole life towards becoming healthy and independent enough not to need it. I've only known one person in my life who actually wanted to be on disability that I thought might be a faker. In that person's case, they probably did need it---and a long stay in a psych ward.
