Too much info to take in at once, not intimately familiar with all the sources and historical context, my copy literally has Greek words in it, it's long, etc

Being and Time is one of my favorites

Dasien 4 lyfe

but in reality, his work is really dense and full of jargon terms. It might be easier in german, no idea. His relationship with Hannah Arendt and the Nazis is also very interesting.

So Heidegger is about the Dasein. The Being. Another major concept is "thrownness."

Have fun

The irony is the jargon papers over what is a very life affirming philosophy.

Perosnally though, Jose Ortega y Gasset and Camus are my favorite of the existential thinkers.

Gasset is extremely readable and so is Camus.

If it doesn't vibe, don't worry about it. Heidegger is a known pain. Not because he's bad a writing but the shear density of jargon.

I would suggest giving Gasset or Camus a try though. The former is a journalist and latter a fiction author. So they are much easier to read.

I didn't get very far, but I am very interested in his discussion of the structure of questions, which he talks about in the first part of the intro.

So I've read some Sartre prior to this, and he distinguishes between the being of the phenomenon and the phenomenon of being

Does such a simple distinction already surpass Heidegger? I'm still on intro pt 1 but it seems like he only acknowledges being as in the being of entities

I try to reread it several times and work through each word slowly, if I read too fast then words just kind of don't register as much for me. Looking up their meaning helps too

typical dad strategy

with most written texts, i can skim ahead and usually get context clarification on what the author means by what i didn't understand. unfortunately, this doesn't work in a dense text in which the author continually introduces exotic terminology

i never tried to seriously read like heidegger. i did the sartre/boethius/wittgenstein stuff but that's all relatively readable

In Hegel, the word is supposed to be the sublation(...maybe) of the union of being and nothingness, which has becoming as its synthesis. It doesn't approach any concept of world until essence is involved.

Sublation* silly autocorrect
