I just finished my second playthrough of the game. I went through hard mode and nothing really felt cheap or unfair. I died so many times but each death felt like my fault rather than some cheap bs.

The EMMI gave that same freak out feeling as fusion but I felt I had a lot more options to avoid them.

The lore got confusing but I really liked seeing more of Samus backstory.

The enemies looked like they were influence from each game of the past. I saw the little hermit crab things from Metroid prime, the spider like things from super, the Chykka from Metroid prime 2, and various bugs from the original.

Unfortunate stories coming out from the dev but if the employer and employees (including former) can come to a good conclusion I'd be fine with mercury studios taking on 2d Metroid games given their 2/2 success with the franchise.

I am not so hot on the open neck design during the quiet robe cutscene or the exposed wire look but each suit felt slick , unique , futuristic , and modernized super Metroid.

The last suit looked like a perfect set up to dark Samus. It really does feel like Metroid Dread is slowly turning you into dark Samus. Which then makes me wonder if Metroid prime will be taking place AFTER Metroid Dread retroactively given the events of that game.

I've liked it a lot but there's some annoying shit that brought it down for me. The difficulty is one thing, the ass checkpoints is another. I don't wanna wait so long to re-fight the boss that smacked me

The speed block puzzles are annoying af

There's also a bunch of dead ends that make you have to circumnavigate the whole of a stage to get to somewhere even though you can see where you wanna go just a couple screens over. This should not be a thing at the end of the game

But those are really the only issues I have with it besides kinda lackluster power ups but that's not a big deal

Indeed. Seems like a missed opportunity. A little DLC will give this game the lift it needs

Haven't they stated that every prime takes place before 2 or something

What people wanted was Dark Samus

Their last go at it (Returns) was basically Super Smash Samus: The Game

no reason not to have Dark Samus - especially with Prime 4 potentially around the corner

what

if anything the checkpoints are too forgiving, they're literally right next to the bosses

what the fuck are you on about
Yeah, just go up a slow ass elevator and then wait until you can skip the cutscene

Why not let me just retry the damn fight right there instead of sending me back a couple screens

how long did hard mode take you? i wanna replay the game on hard mode.

other m is the only 2d one i never finished. keep saying i should go back and try to finish it someday. same with the prime trilogy. i only played the first but didn't finish. waiting for them to release the trilogy on switch to play those.

just how bad is other m? i beat probably like half the game. should i ever bother trying it again or just stick to forgetting it exists?

Damn, I really want to play it.

I want to beat the Switch game I'm currently playing before I buy my next one (NMH3).

What I mean by dark Samus was that the move sets you got in this game were all moves demonstrates by dark Samus. The aeon abilities all are found in dark Samus move set, including the blaster. I'm thinking that aeon devices and enhancements are from the Mawkin tribe,.while the traditional ones are from the therma (something like that, don't feel like opening a tab) tribes. All of the abilities that are aeon , Mawkin have. Samus using her Metroid powers from fusion to augment abilities from the EMMI are displayed in dread. Given that metroids do not have this host augmentation ability , demonstrated by super and other m showing creatures turning to dust, it stands to reason that when the phazon suit was absorbed with it too was the Metroid and Mawkin DNA.

The creation of dark Samus being a corruption of the phazon suit definitely works - especially given how the Ing work in Metroid prime 2, and x in fusion. Phazon, the Ing, and X all absorb, adhere to, take over the host, and augments the hosts abilities.

Sakamoto stated that Prime is not canon, but fans have it between super and fusion given the lack of fusion elements. My theory is that retroactively prime takes place after the rest. This would explain the more powerful mother brain clones in prime 3 when compared to dread, the aeon abilities being so similar to dark Samus bag of tricks.

None of this is proven of course, just a personal theory.

I'd put it above fusion. It has some really great attributes that let you really zoom through the game. I don't think you could wall jump while holding a shine spark in super, and dread has the quick hops that zero mission took.

The map in super was better as it was more cohesive. While there were mine shafts that allowed you to fast travel, the world was interconnected allowing you to run from magma to surface. I did not like how dread kept each biome locked behind a loading corridor.

The boss selection In Metroid was more varied and engaging of course dread had far too many recycled variants of the same thing. Though dlc may help with this as more bosses were planned but cut for time issues.

I thought it was stated the Prime games were between 1 and 2
