It could be a good thing in a few situations I guess, like if the enemy you're trying not to attack has some damage reflection buff or charges some attack when it takes damage, and you don't want to inadvertently attack it >_>

I know what you mean though. What game are you specifically annoyed about having it right now? Conceptually it kind of makes sense if you think of it in terms of all the actions are happening simultaneously. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I haven't experienced that in a while, but yeah definitely annoying in games that had it. It's like dammit, don't just swing at nothing, because your target no longer exists, target the next enemy!

It's probably meant to emulate the tabletop systems that old school RPGs copied. If you ready an action in D&D and the trigger you set fails to occur (conditions change, the enemy dies, etc), your action is wasted. Since you're selecting targets prior to actually having your turn, you're effectively doing the same thing.

That's bad programming, they should automatically target the next enemy or the battle should end if there aren't any.
