The listserv I'm on doesn't post entry level jobs at all. It seems the only thing they hire are managers needing 5+ years exp

a lot of people /companies treat "entry level" as "non-management"

It's bs anyway

Less responsibility.

The longer you work somewhere, even if it's entry level they often can give you raises.

Everybody knows that a managerial position is more work and responsibility with very little pay increase.

Entry level jobs essentially means little expectations. Most people don't have the level of experience in that field to be in management positions.

maybe in retail and fast food

even then I'd rather be "working" 50 hours a week while telling others what to do

It'd kill my soul though

Because there aren't a large variety of non-entry level jobs?

I know it's ancedotal but the vast majority of people I know in low level shitty jobs hate it and want to be doing more but there's nothing avaiable.

And when good jobs do come up, they get swamped with so many applicants, the dudes who only have entry level experience get set aside.

Really if you're not born wealthy or know people who will offer you a great job, you're kinda fucked.

Mix into that people who go into massive debt getting degrees that are now (or always where) pretty much worthless and they'll take any job they can get.

It's actually kind sad how many people I know who went into film or marketing or media or medical education who now work in coffee shops or collect trash because there is nothing for them to do. All they got was a $200,000 piece of paper

It's becoming increasingly difficult to get your foot in the door, let alone have a decent position/title, even with credentials and experience.

have you ever been a manager?

it aint half as easy as you think and they have to do regular work on top of it as often as not.

I mean my grad program was only 10k but I couldn't finish it because I couldn't secure an internship. No one would give me a chance.

it depends on the work. in corporate jobs I've seen it seems like all negotiating resources, i.e. the employees' time and what they spend it doing.

At my job people become more scared or turn into assholes overnight.

I've turned down measly coordinator positions because I didn't want to come to work pissed off and go home pissed off.

i had to run ma crew in the finishing end of the plant for a month and they asked if Id do it permanently and I said fuck no. Lol.

you have to deal with idiots and people who just have shitty attitudes and still get things accomplished... and everything bthat fucks up is now gonna come down on you from upper management.

i hated it.

Here in NC a low or min wage employee has nothing to lose.

They'll beat some ass or usually hand you the tools and tell you to do it yourself and walk out.

This topic is mostly just because I'm not qualified for even an entry level position. I really just wish I actually had a chance to at least try the job

But my lot is just basic physical labor, since anyone can do it
