But usually I park close to a corral or close as possible.

If far away I'll place the cart on the grass.

I mean it's not like someone else won't grab it when they see it.

I'm sorry but this mindset is what's wrong with the world. The cart is your responsibility at putting it in the appropriate place takes so little effort.

I don't want you to feel shame, but I do hope that you change, this selfish "not my problem" (when it is your problem) mindset over the most easy of things is bad for you and others.

Yeah, that's like the logic of people who leave trash all over the floor and table when eating inside a McDonalds or something. "What? They hire people to clean up!".

Or leaving empty popcorn bucket and soda in a movie theater seat.

The cleaning people are there to clean up after small unintended messes, not after people's willful intentional crass messiness.

If a place has a system, respect that system when you use that place. Anything else is selfish and rude.

My work (warehouse-ish) repurposed shopping carts from a nearby grocery store that went out of business. What does that count as?

I would never liter. However I will now never return carts where they should go. I used to, mostly because it can be fun.

But now I won't. I'll go out of my way to leave them in very awkward places.

sometimes they can't do the job they were hired for because lazy dicks leave carts in the parking lot.

If it's part of their job duties then they were hired for that as well. Not having a title that says it doesn't change if your boss or hiring manager informs the staff member that carts is part of their daily duties.

Also, some stores hire staff with that as the title. For example Target.

But even if it's technically something covered in their job duties that doesn't give you permission to give them more work. It's a shitty thing to do.

The contract of going to a grocery store is that you return the cart. Those are the rules, a person is not above the rules because they are lazy. Nor is there any good justification to make a low wage earners tough job needlessly tougher.

While that person is collecting carts from the far corners of the lot, another cart can be blocking a spot or rolling into someone's car. But most places don't have a dedicated person, so carts sit in the lot much longer and have a better chance of smashing into cars or just being generally annoying. I recently saw a lady put her cart in the handicap spot, she got in her car, and before she left the wind blew it right into her car pretty hard, and her response was to get out and push it 5 feet further than it originally was.

But on topic, I go any of the "good" ones. Always return the cart, sometimes leave it in the building with the rest if I'm walking out with a single bag, or to the returns outside, always.

This is the second post to insert a pivot to what my post specifically addressed. My post doesnt hint or talk about throwing carts randomly around the parking lot. Corals most definitely exist at many stores. Especially Target since you directly quoted the part of my post talking about Target.

Hell, in some places, people take the fucking cart home.

Around Halloween last year, I randomly found a Home Depot shopping cart in my front yard. While my subdivision is behind a Home Depot, Im nearly a mile away from the store, so someone pushed that thing a long way. I had to call them 3 straight days before someone came out to collect it.

Anyone who has a job and held one for years should know being hired as one thing, doesn't mean your boss or hiring manager will not inform you your job duties also entails things the title doesn't imply. Being hired as a specific title doesn't exempt employers from slapping additional responsibilities the company requires to make sure the business functions. Employees were most definitely hired to pick up carts regardless if it's their title or not.

What you are talking has nothing to do with the fact of the above.

Sometimes in topics like these certain people who seem to be on the same side of an issue blend together a bit. So acknowledge I might have been lumping you in with people somewhat unfairly.

I think your post is making a technical point, that technically such actions are part of their job description. This point, while true, suggests that the customer has no responsibility not to make such people's lives as hard as they want, and that latter statement is false.

For example, just because employees might be expected to pick up popcorn tubs and soda from movie theater seats does not give a patron permission to just leave them there. The expectation is that patrons will take used trash to the garages that exist for that express purpose on the way out.

So to be clear, are you saying "picking up abandoned carts is part of their job description" or are you saying "picking up abandoned carts is part of their job description, therefore people should feel free to abandon their carts."

Because the first one is true and the second one isn't.

They are. There's a reason why Target and Walmart have 12+ manned checkout lanes but only 3 of them are open at any given time. Because they expect you to use the self-checkout. They expect to not have to pay for more employees than they want to.

Its random, depending on where the card stalls are. I always try to bring it to the cart stalls, but Im not walking it back to the store. People drive like psychos in parking lots where I live and half of the year, its a skating rink of ice or slushy snow.

I don't know where exactly I fit. I get picked up at the curb right outside the store entrance so when I am done loading I just leave the carts right there by the doors.

The store that I go to only has corrals way the fuck in the back so if I get a parking spot close to the front door it's usually faster for me to return it to the store than to a corral.

I leave it in the far corner of the parking lot. I normally walk home from the grocery store with my bags over my shoulders, so I go as far as I can in the parking lot before I start carrying them.
