Had to go to the ER around midnight because I felt like my eye was about to pop out of my skull.

My IOP (intra ocular pressure - the pressure the fluid in your eyes exerts on the interior walls of the eyeball) at the time was in the high 50s. For reference, the average IOP for normal eyeballs are around 11-20.

So yeah, not fun.

Had to do a litany of tests, lots of eyedrops, and there was even a point where the Dr had to physically manipulate my eyeball directly to get some of the drainage vessels to open up. (Didn't work, my eyeball is apparently an asshole)

Now it's nearly 6am, still sitting here in the ER and I have to wait to get transferred to another part in the hospital for even more tests.

So that's how my night and eventual morning is going. How's yours potd?

Man that sounds awful :( hope you get relief soon

I just got to work and I'm listening to news and drinking coffee before I punch in. Alway get to work early and do this. Sometimes by as much as half an hour but today just about 15 minutes. I hate feeling like I need to rush to work.

My father has it and my grandmother before him. Looong story short, yeah, it can really suck. I've heard all of the stories I want about drainage ports, stitches, needles, and faded vision. Fortunately I'm not showing any signs (yet).

And fortunately (for you) I'm told my father has a unusually difficult to treat case: here's hoping (and expecting) yours won't be like that!

Funny thing is I'm still 29 years old.

Also, somewhat good news(?)

I had to be seen by like three different specialists and they concluded that's it's not glaucoma but something called Posner-Schlossman Syndrome.

Which is basically glaucoma-lite. It's not caused by deformation of the drainage system, but an overreaction to some sort of inflammation in the eye, apparently (or any number of other reasons they said. It's sort of the default "kinda glaucoma but not" diagnosis).

It'll still result in increased pressure like glaucoma but it's not chronic and basically can occur randomly. Which kinda tracks since the last attack I had was over 5 years ago.

So yeah, looks like my eye IS an asshole that can just randomly decide to fuck around in my skull.

But hey, they kinda mentioned off-hand that my case was "interesting" and could be used to teach new students so I have that going for me.

I smoke an ounce a week and worked at an optometry office for two years. None of the active components within cannabis will drop your IOP significantly.
