...all of the characters except for the MC.

It was initially planned as one cohesive season only, on its own, which explains the sensible story. But now with the popularity of the series, the producers have decided to go along with a 2nd seaosn anyway

They can maybe do a prequel series about Hwang In-ho or how the games started. I agree the best thing to do would be to leave it at one season but with the massive popularity and potential truckloads of money it's hard to turn down.

The problem is, audiences developed a bond with the existing cast of characters. For instance, a lot of people liked player 67 (or whatever her number is... i forgot) .But her fame is short-lived 'cos she's dead now lol

They have Gi Hun and more likely than not the cop who had the "off screen death". If I had to guess, next season will be a new batch/crop of players featuring a new MC, with Gi Hun and Cop being a major side story trying to take down the organization...in a more effective way than the cop was trying to do solo lol

But then it'd have nothing to do with Squid Game.
Plus her backstory was more or less explored already.

I don't see any reasonable way the cop could fall from that height and live.

Secondly, I dont think the Front Man is as stupid as to just shoot the guy and walk away without confirming the death.

All these feel like dumb excuses just to fit into a season 2

Whoops. Didnt realize that.

I thought you meant the actress

But honestly apart from the Front Man's intentions, there's basically no plot mystery left covered in the 1st season. It was clearly meant to be one full season and only one season on its own. The producers even admitted they had no damn idea for a 2nd season. The ending was meant to just be an impromptu thing

Not really. They can just do a new cast of characters for the next game. The evil rich guys with masks are still around.

Also while I'm at it, I'd like to introduce you guys to this much much better show called ALICE IN BORDERLAND.

That actually has a planned season 2 because it's a very much intended continuation of the original show.

It's like...one of the most common death tropes tho lol. Brother/Frontman when arriving at the island told the soldiers to capture the cop alive. Also shot the cop in the shoulder so not fatal at all. And you don't even see his body afterwards. And it's not like he fell into rocks.

Not to mention that the Front Man cared enough about his brother to donate a kidney to him. He's pretty much guaranteed to be alive.

Seen it. It's not better and pretty different. AiB is like a poor man's Gantz.

Gantz is just mindless killing. AiB is about tactics, outsmarting or gaining trust and trying to break the game mechanics by finding loopholes. The games are at least miles...no, leagues above that of Squid Game. I have a feeling you didnt even watch till the final episode if you can so much as say that

And if you read the manga, the Face Card games ups the ante like crazy. Very psychological based, especially the Jack of Hearts and King of Diamonds. But what's most impressive is the never-ending creativity of this one single author coming up with so many games

I haven't watched AiB so can't comment but Squid Game isn't about the death games themselves but why these people are participating in the death games and the factors in and out of their control that brought them to that point.

yeah, that's what AiB does as well which makes it so good. It's not just about the games but actually about the characters too.

Squid Game is more superficial but grounded by focusing on the economic disparity, but it's really done to death already in so many korean shows, including the recent Parasite. Koreans are practical in that sense, but they don't seem to be taught to look as inwardly.

In AiB, the backstories are a lot more varied because everyone is sent to the Borderlands with no explained reason (until you read the ending) but snippets of their past is shown that perfectly defines each character to their very core personality and values. This matters a lot especially for the Heart games (which are psychological in nature) since a lot of it involves influencing and outsmarting one another and sacrificing lives.

I also call SG superficial because the theme focused in AiB (at least in the manga later on) is a lot more philosophical as characters soon struggle with the meaning of their lives from being ostracised from society to finding redemption of their past actions. The author weaves character motivations in such a way where even the worst villain can later turn out to be someone you'd root or cry for.
