Well, for one, theres someone jumping on Melanat.

It's really floaty and gives a jump height that looks unattainable for the character. Looks silly.

No it's not good.

From games were so refreshing because they were not like every other hand holding AAA title out there. I say was because they started moving away from with DaS2 and they have only become more like every other developer with each game.

I dunno. While I very much enjoy Dark Souls not having a map thing, I'm not sure I'd like that in an open world game.

But then that's mostly because open world is assbuttshit and if I like Elden Ring it will be in spite of that design element, not because of it.

The open worldness + how incredibly much it looks like Dark Souls 3 visually + the increased casual all have me leery about this. I know I'm going to enjoy it, but each game is feeling less like a From game to me.

I'm really looking forward to this. I usually don't like medieval/middle ages setting games but the saturation/colour gradience of this really gives it a more fantasy feel. Getting major Lord of the Rings vibes from this

as far as the compass thing goes, they talked about it in articles earlier this year:

Elden Ring will get another innovation, as we recently learned during a Gamescom presentation. For the first time, the developers will introduce navigation mechanics, including a map and a compass that shows us the cardinal points. You will be able to open a finely crafted world map on which you can mark interesting places for later. Since there are also fast travel options available in Elden Ring, you will quickly find your way back there if you feel like spelunking.

Asking whether or not the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Demons Souls on PS5 are competent compared to their contemporaries should be like *the* qualifying question to see whether or not a person understands exactly where the bar is for modern gaming, and what that bar looks like. Allllll these AAA are copying Souls for a reason. Its not exactly happening the other way around by the way. For the same reason. Souls is one of the best games/series of all time IN THE STATE IT IS CURRENTLY IN.

When From made DeS the game was assumed to be a failure with no sales expectations so they were allowed to do whatever they wanted.

From is now one of the most popular developers around and making games for the masses.

What you said is the same as assuming a young indie band is going into the studio with the same mindset, restrictions, and need to appeal to the main stream as a pop star that has to follow up on their previous multi platinum hits.
