Do you want to play online?
well the only way to do so is to pay for it, and the only way to pay for it is to buy the bundled 'service' that comes with cloud saves, retro game rentals, and games like tetris 99.

Want cloud saves?
the only way to get them is to rent them with online gameplay and retro game rental

Want to play an old game?
You can't buy it by itself. The only way to get it is to rent their entire collection of games. You can't choose one, you have to pay for all of them together.

If you want retro gameplay rental--
You can't just pay for that, you also have to pay for their online services and cloud saves and things.

Want to play N64 games?
You can't unless you pay for everything listed above PLUS access to DLC to a games you might not care about or own, but which inflates the price you must pay regardless.

Nintendo fans allowed themselves to be sold cardboard years back. They have no one to blame but themselves.

i hate it as much as I hate adobe's jump to "you can't buy our software any more, instead you pay rent eternally"

Yeah, Labo actually looked pretty fun. Not something I would ever buy at that price, but a pretty neat concept. They've done a lot of things in recent years that I'm not impressed with from a business point of view, but Labo isn't really one of them.

I think the turning point for Ninty for me was when they started locking extra features behind overpriced action figures.

I don't think the DLC is the reason for the price but rather, the DLC is sorta like a gift for those who are paying for it. Its likely that the increase in price is nothing to do with it...and is just them boosting the price because they wanta.
