Honestly, I don't really know if he's super super well-known, but I loved Hatchet as a kid. Sad news to hear, honestly.

Is this that movie about the kid whose plane crashes because the pilot had a heart attack?

I remember reading Hatchet and three of its sequels in 5th grade. I laughed hard at Brian wishing themoose got caught in the tornado in the first book.

RIP to a legend of children's literature.

I had to read Hatchet in Grade 8 as part of school. Loved it. That summer I bought and read The River (1991) and Brian's Winter (1996). A few years later, I also read Brian's Return (1999) and Brian's Hunt (2003).

I'm normally not into such genres and would've never read it if it wasn't part of my English class (I normally like dystopian or murder mystery fiction type stuff) but am glad I did.

RIP Gary

Pretty sure the kid had sex with that hatchet

I recall reading the book in school (along with My Side of the Mountain, which is similar) but don't remember much beyond the kid's hatchet being used for literally everything

I never knew there were that many "sequels" to Hatchet. I might have to check those out.

...It's the first book I can remember that was required reading in school that I liked.
