Do you think people ought to have buyer's remorse and get their money back even though they signed a contract?

41 y/o Soren Arn-Oelschlegel, an LGBTQ Virginia Real Estate Agent was shot dead by one of his clients, 84 y/o Albert Baglione from Alabama because he bought a Home SIGHT UNSEEN what is now ruled as a murder-suicide!!

Police arrived in the town of Portsmouth and found Baglione armed who then ran back into the house and shot himself dead. SWAT then went inside and found Soren dead as well.

Neighbors said the Alabama resident signed a contract to purchase the home he found even though he's NEVER seen it and signed the deed anyway because of a good deal...but he had buyer's remorse and demanded his money back but Soren could not undo the deal and refused to reverse the transaction.

Soren was going to there to try to reason with him because he had called him, angry and demanded to return it and was going to reassure him that the property was worth the purchase.

Soren is now being remembered by the local LGBTQ community as a dedicated member stating "We are heartbroken to announce our Hamptons Roads Pride family member, Soren Arn-Oelschlegel, our brother, friend, member and volunteer was fatally shot. Our love and support goes out to Soren's family and friends as we struggle to wrap our heads on this devastating loss. His kind and generous spirit left us too soon".

The company he worked for said hehad a lot of energy and was always out there working to sell houses building up a good reputation

...what difference does the victim's sexual orientation make when the crime had nothing to do with that? Why are you highlighting it?

The only relevant things are the reason it happened (which is weird), and MAYBE the killer's age (because how often does a 84 y/o murder somebody?)

Eh, no. I don't think that's a that should be required.

Once they've paid for a thing they can sell it again if they no longer want it.

The title and poll lead me to think he wanted his money back. I don't see how either part of that event achieves his goal.

There's no reason to mention LGBT here when he would have shot the agent no matter what their sexual orientation is.

Buyer's remorse is codified into laws, but no idea if it applies to houses...

Edit: looks like it does, but the term is only 3 days.

a contract is a contract.

if he wanted out that bad he could have defaulted and only lost his down payment if something was really wrong with the house that would not justify terminating the contract under the law or the contract itself.

usually that is what happens. Or negotiate to get back part of the down payment.

If the realtor tried to tell him to see the house, have it inspected, etc.. and he declined, then it's on him.
But if the realtor did not advocate for such precautions, then I do blame the realtor.
Realty is supposed to be a profession, with ethics and standards. They make money by getting houses bought/sold on commission, so the whole point of said ethics is to put the customer's interests first and not just try to get as many sales as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately both are now dead, so we may never know the circumstances that led to him buying the house so frivolously.

I also want to take a moment to angrily rant against the Federal Reserve, Blackrock and other investment firms buying up homes en masse, and politicians. They caused this disgusting immoral housing market we have now, where people are so desperate that they waive inspections and gamble like this. I cannot get a house, and many other millennials are in the same boat, because home prices went on a fucking rocket ship the last 2 years. Insanely low interest rates, money printing and other QE to give the wealthy companies basically free money to then go and buy up homes as investments, politicians continued refusal to pass homestead laws to HEAVILY tax homes that aren't your primary residence (to discourage people buying up so many of them)....
FUCK ALL OF YOU! You've created untold misery for my generation and the deaths of these two are on your hands as far as I'm concerned. FUCK YOU!!!!!!

??? Site unseen houses are a thing. You pay a dirt cheap price because they probably wouldn't otherwise be able to sell it.

IMO, no ethical realtor should ever go along w/ buying sight-unseen w/o trying to warn the client first.

I remember a CNN story about a "house from hell" or whatever w/ all sorts of problems. The realtor listed it and got tons of sight-unseen offers, but required anyone looking to buy it to visit and smell it first (it smelled like death). Because she at least had some damn integrity.

I've talked to my realtor about this desperation-fueled craze to buy sight-unseen, and he agreed it's insane and he'd NEVER advise a client to do that, even if it means losing out on buying the house.

Correct no one "should" do it. But they do and it's a common practice where people who do it know what they are getting in to.

They should just tear it down and sell it as a lot instead then.
