I hated the ending. It was okay that Gilbert was alive, it was great that he finally agreed to meet her. But I really disliked how he asked her to live with him and she pretty much dropped everything and said yes. Honestly, I feel bad for Claudia. He is over protective, but he obviously cares for her

Other than that the film was great. Laughed and cried at all the right moments. The framing device of the girl who was a descendant of the ill mother was a nice touch

Also, this was the first time where you could really hear the Ann in Violet's voice

I forget was this her CO in the army. I remember watching the anime and it wasn't bad but it'd be better if he was really dead. Kind of ruins the story if he's alive

It released on Netflix today

Fwiw it has a lot of plot unrelated to that point. It only pops up in the second half, and arguably the most emotional part of the film has nothing to do with it

I saw it in theaters last year and liked it. Multiple people cried. It's rare to hear anyone make a sound in theaters here, but it was really powerful.
