This is probably one of my earliest gaming memories.

I remember playing a tiny little guy in a really far out screen alongside my two neighbors. Idk what I was doing, because I was 3, but there was some boss fight against a dragon? Or like a fire thing?

And for the fight you had to hide behind these pillars to avoid its attacks.

Got into a conversation with a friend about this the other day and narrowed it down to these two, but edging on PoE.

Honesty it sounds like neither. But I barely remember Pillars at this point since I played it in like 2018. Just remember getting lucky on some boss fights.

Maybe you are thinking Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale? They came out around the same time as Diablo 2.

Is it possible it could have been on a Dreamcast? Because to me that sounds more like Record of Lodoss War than Diablo 2. Aside from items/skills I don't recall any dragons in D2, although there is a superfluous abundance of fire. On the other hand, I'm struggling to remember if there were any pillars during the dragon fights in RLW, but in my defense it has been a hot minute since I last took that one to completion.

Also, with your neighbors, were you actively playing together, like a simultaneous co-op game, or were you all just looking at the screen while one person played? That could help narrow it down, considering D2 would have needed everyone on their own PC and RLW is single player.

If you were all playing together, and given the alleged time frame, I'm wondering if it could have been some incarnation of Gauntlet. Possibly Legends or Dark Legacy?

We were for sure all playing together unless they did the old trick where you hand a small child an unplugged controller and trick them >_>

Oh yea, I remember that fight. I played a ton of Gauntlet Legends my first year of college. They had the arcade machine and I probably pumped 60-80 dollars into it beating the game and maxing out my Valkyrie all semester.

Never played that one bit did play the first one on PS. Definitely one of the best arcade machines out there too.
