American Airlines (mainly DFW) and Southwest Airlines (mainly HOU and AUS) have already said they will continue their mandates. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

That EO should be shot down with ease as a violation of private business entity's First Amendment rights though (ironically enough).

corporations and bosses do not have the right to impose these things on employees except in very specific cases like hospitals or nursing homes due to those settings not being about the business per se, but about the ill people who are at higher risk.

giving bosses this power in general would be idiotic. the only sense in which there is now a complication foisted onto a business due to "regulatory framework complexity" is because that new regulatory framework is too stifling and should be thrown out as garbage. that's what it is: garbage.

it's a problem created by the Biden administration, and now I'm to believe that it's actually Texas opposing these idiotic rules that is somehow causing problems for businesses within the regulatory framework? and i should believe this from people on the left who...care so much about business and profit and bosses and whether or not Jeff Bezos or his special interests can tell his warehouse workers what they "need" to put into their bodies in order to be allowed to put bread on the table? and I should believe this all while businesses are voting with their wallet and going to Texas already because Texas won't put up with increasing bureacratic bullshit and regulatory overload?

lol get the hell out of here with this bullshit. how can some of you be this naive? this incapable of forward thinking? this illiterate on basic history and what happens when special interests amass real power against a cocophony of voices that for years now have been making those people a target? they will enslave you all and you're cheering it on.

these mandates are the equivalent of your boss doing whatever they want with your body as a condition of your employment. one does not need to consider much dystopian sci-fi or history or just the evil some people have, to understand how and why these are risks. they are not going to just strip you of your rights overnight because that would be too quick and it would fail.

and it's not like some of you are just thinking that it's all for the virus. some of you deep down actually know that it's about control and you feel glee at the idea and believe yourselves to be the ones who will be in control of that system. but you will not be. this is not some glorious start of a worker revolution or whatever the hell some of you pretend to be after. this is all a giant flex by some certain bosses to remind their workers who the boss is and who fires who and who tells who what to do with their body.

Enjoy playing lawmaker while you can, Texas Republicans. Your state is sliding further and further blue in every single election.

W won it by 20%.

Trump won it by 5%.

Even having the most restrictive voting process in the country won't overcome sheer numbers. In another decade or two it'll be blue, and we can start cleaning up the mess you've made.

And now we reach the crux of why so-called people like Abbott and DeathSantis are making these plays - make it as difficult as possible for educated, health-conscious people to protect themselves from Covid in an attempt to balance out the loss of uneducated freedumb-fighters. We already know that one of the motivators of Trump's lax response to the pandemic was that he believed it would hit blue-voting urban areas the hardest.

Except most blue areas are highly vaccinated, while red areas are not.

Hence Trump and a few others tentatively suggesting getting vaxxed to cacaphonous boos.

DFW is a major international gateway into the United States that's mainly handled by AA and one of the largest hubs for them. "Hurts the company" is a massive understatement if they were to do this (read: cheaper to lawyer up).

Southwest maybe but given the landscape for airlines since very late 2020 and including the fiasco that was the 737 MAX, they're not going to give up any revenue.

This is nothing new. There have been jobs that required specific vaccines before. Jobs had been free to require such things. The new thing is mandates against mandates and other mandates for mandates. Instead of like just leaving it up to the companies and people like we have been for decades.

giant aspirin you wouldn't know what a slippery slope is even if you were sliding down one

just consider the things happening over in Australia if you somehow think it's a sLiPpErY sLoPe (perhaps because you're afraid of the illusion of safety being shattered, or perhaps because you think you'll be one pulling the strings as a boss)

Let's see what's going on in Australia so we can properly evaluate if this is a slippery slope or not.

They want to force people who quarantine at home, rather than a government-mandated quarantine "hotel" that has guards, to install a new app that does facial recognition and GPS tracking in your own home. It will randomly ping you, and if you don't respond to the ping within 15 minutes it'll send the police to your house for an in-person check.

and no, i'd never want to be the boss. fuck that level of responsibility.

also, none of those things you're fear mongering about are necessities of a simple vaccine mandate at large employers. it's entirely possible to implement a mandate without falling into all of those other things you're rambling about. that's why your argument is a logical fallacy and will not be addressed.

here's some reading for you to brush up on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope

is an argument in which a party asserts that a relatively small first step leads to a chain of related events culminating in some significant (usually negative) effect.

@ uwnim you must live in another country if you think "this is nothing new" with regards to what is happening in the USA

and particularly must be keeping your head in the sand to not know about the lawsuits brewing against the Biden admin or the general migration that will take place out of, say, California and into Texas and etc as the most productive people flee the bureacratic hellholes where nothing can get done without the Nanny in Chief saying so.

nothing like this has been done before, as far as these mandates go and the mandates being made a condition of employment in general. except in very specific settings that have already been mentioned (hospitals, nursing homes). and those links about Australia are clearly showing you that the enslavers were in fact biding their time until enough people are complacent and ignorant enough to spend 4 years talking about Nazis only to then completely collapse their own narrative when fed some clickbait tribal garbage about vaxxed vs unvaxxed.

it's "conservative fear mongering" because you're boldly asserting that those things will necessarily follow this other thing, yet you have not proven why that is true. you started with a small thing and made some magical leap in logic and assumed without evidence that your conclusions will follow.

so instead of pointing at the one country that took a mandate to the most extreme measures possible, why don't you look at the countless countries that have NOT gone that far? is it possibly because that doesn't suit your agenda?

Like seriously, Abbott is doing this solely for winning political points. Initially he only forbid government stuff from mandating covid vaccination and thought it was fine if a company/corporation did it. But other members of the party were saying it didnt do enough so to avoid losing standing in the Texas Republican Party he issued this. Which specifically forbids covid vaccine requirements, but leaves open every other vaccine mandate a company might want to implement. Why is that? Because there is no actual belief that companies shouldnt be able to do this.

you don't even know what a slippery slope is. there ARE actual slippery slopes out there. you don't wait until those armed police officers are stuffing people into those quarantine camps for sunbathing on a mostly-deserted beach, you say something when the armed police officers are telling people they are breaking the law and need to go home for being on the fucking beach

and the same applies doubly to everything else in those links, or the general authoritarian aura that is emanating from the so-called leftists who hate corporations and proft and bosses. you don't wait until the system is built and you're a slave to say something, you call this shit out when you see it rearing its ugly head.
