I tried watching it when it was starting to trend but before it become viral. Watched the first episode but couldn't get into it

If you didn't like the second half of episode 1, you probably won't like the rest of the series. I will say it's a good show, though. I just finished watching it last night. Original Korean audio is the best; it sounds a lot more natural than the dub.

The first and second episodes are a snoozefest. The series greatly picks up until the final episode, where I feel it fails to live up what made the middle episodes so great.

no, not really. I guess if you count blood splatter as ink/paint there are some minor similarities.

It got better after the first few episodes when you understand every characters motivations and the drama part sucks you in. Still nothing mind blowing or anything. Just seems to be a huge hit over at Asia for some reason.

Honestly, this too. In the first two episodes you're still being introduced to the characters and the world. Once the characters and world are fleshed out some, and the game starts up again, the show gets much more intense.

Who are the casuals that watch the dub over the sub lmao

Started out liking it and ended up loving it. Hard to say if you'll like the show if you didn't like the first episode, but 2 could be worth watching maybe.

Episode 1 is the worst. The fact that main character is a clown made me really dislike it but it got better with the games.

I just popped in on my friend watching it during RedLightGreenLight and started from there. Thought it was great.

Though because of this I had no idea the handsome guy was the protagonist. Thought the super smart guy was supposed to be the main character until like, the last two episodes lmao

A couple of moms of the contestants, that one lady from the glass bridge who had a few lines, and a few other random contestants. When you say "old lady" I tend to think of like, 60+

Not much dismemberment. A lot of it is done with guns. A few games have people fall from a height, and occasionally there will be skulls shown cracked open with some brain-ish stuff inside in the aftermath. The goriest scenes are like, surgical stuff where a corpse has some organs removed, but the limbs stay on in general.

In some ways, yes. There are fight scenes that involve contestants killing each other, but the main focus is the variety of games with rules and objectives. The main draw is how the contestants strategize and manipulate the rules and situations to their advantage. There are some really good characters at work, too. Rivalries and relationships pop up, motives shift, people do increasingly-heartless things to ensure their own survival. It's compelling shit, and if you don't read any major spoilers it's a gripping series that really makes you wonder how it's going to end.

There's also a subplot involving (Spoilers for like, episode 2): a detective who sneaks his way in and starts posing as one of the workers, and he's our view into the nuts and bolts of the operation. He's a very cool character, in my opinion.
