We have a Nick Smash clone, how about a Cartoon Network one? Seems pretty obvious. The stuff from the late 90s and early 2000s alone has a roster great enough for its own game, and pretty much all of them would work perfectly for the concept. Better than Nick, in my opinion.

WB Animation is another obvious pick. Looney Tunes, Tiny Toons, Freakazoid, Animaniacs...and since they own MGM's cartoons, you can bring in Droopy, Screwy Squirrel, and Tom and Jerry. And they own DC characters, too, and I THINK they own Popeye.

The Universal Monster roster could fit in with this - there's already plenty of goofy things using those characters - and you could even have Abbot and Costello show up for good measure. Of course, that's like only ten characters.

Cartoon Network has a ton of cartoon shows that they could use to make a smash clone out of. Just give it a good budget and plenty of development time. They could even use the aged up versions of characters from the Fusionfall MMO

I'd love to play as characters like Usagi Yojimbo, Ace Duck, Groundchuck, Walkabout, Doctor El, Mondo Gecko, Panda Khan, Rat King, etc.

or any franchise with a focus on characters who fight both as normal-sized humans and as colossi when they transform or enter a vehicle.

Smash Bros has these big, huge level-sized arenas a lot of the time. So, it would be kinda cool if you could a become building-sized fighter for short periods of time & try to take out the smaller fighters (similar to a Final Smash) and/or to fight another building-sized player making use of Smashs rather unique sized stages.

maybe the trade off is that your fighter recovers health for their small form while in giant form. But! If the player is killed in giant form, they are simply dead. And the giant form has less health than the small form. You recover giant health by going back to small form. Similar to tagging out with a team. Risk/reward

Also, 2D side scrollers are a no-brainer (more or less) you could make one of these out of these out of practically anything.

The big disadvantage with SmashBros is that its child-friendly. So, on the flip side they may just want to release an adult swim version that allows it to go places it normally couldnt (adding fighters from more M-rated series) and caters to the older demographic whos been on board since at least N64. That was over 20 years ago, and the audience has largely stuck.

Power Rangers is also pretty well settled into staging these big, elaborate team battles between a dozen people or more. Which is another one of SuperSmash Bros strengths. Its not unusual to see 6 people fighting at a time. Many franchises dont actually allow for that without it getting really off-key after a couple of matches. Huge melee free-for-alls on the reg is sort of rare......

Already happened. TMNT Smash Up on Wii. It even randomly had Rabbids as guest characters, since it was made by Ubisoft.

Why would you want to fuck with an iconic design? That's exactly what the Sonic movie tried to do, and that got verbally assaulted for a month straight.

It wouldn't have to replace the classic characters. Maybe alternate costumes, or clone fighters like Young Link / Link. I loved seeing all of my favorite characters, older. But I know that's not how everyone would receive that lol.

Ah, I can get behind that. Looking again, as long as they don't replace the originals, they do look pretty good. Especially Dexter and Numbuh 5. Finn looks horrifying, though.

Marvel and DC both have a wide variety of characters with a bunch of abilities to make it work.

Something like DBZ would basically suffer from the complaints people have about anime swordsmen characters in Smash. They are kinda the same conceptually (fly, punch hard, shoot lasers). You would need to include other jump properties for variety.

Cartoon Network works for the same reason Nick does.

Disney could work if Disney could get on board with Micky Mouse punching Belle in the face (and vice versa) but I just don't see that happening.
