That's what you wear when you're about to teach an algebra class.

Wear a suit.

Its on the lower end of acceptable, but it is acceptable.

If you have a pair of dress pants (black, gray, navy) that you can substitute for the khakis, it brings everything up a notch.

I'd need to buy a pair since my current pairs are old and too small. I could but...meh

It doesn't, brah. Get you a suit and wear it. Rent one if you have to.

This, unless it's a beach wedding. Then a dress shirt and dockers would be ok. I'd still do a blazer though.

I've never seen a wedding where every (or even most) dudes are wearing a suit tbh.

That's usually just the groomsmen and family of the bride/groom

If you're not going to be in the posed photos a suit is not your problem, just don't show up with your ass hanging out.

I would wear a suit.

But if you are not part of the party, it is ok.

When in doubt wear a suit. Always.

I think it also depends on how close you are to either party.

like, if you're a close friend/family member, then a suit would be more fitting.

but if you're a casual friend, acquaintance, then what you proposed in the topic title is fine.

It really depends on the wedding, some are super formal some are more informal.

That, and you can always dress it down if for some reason it's too formal (never been to a wedding where a suit wasn't appropriate).

The invitations would probably state "formal attire" outright. At least, that's what we did for ours.

My dad always said this. You can always take off the jacket and tie and even roll up your sleeves if you're "overdressed".

Not dressed right? There's nowhere to hide.

I've been "overdressed" at a couple social events - none weddings - and it's actually an icebreaker. I just kept everything as it was and went along my business.
