Does 5d chess let you do any branch you want or do you have to do them in an order?

The rules state whoever controls the white pieces go first. There's no need to decide who goes, that's the way it is.

It's randomly assigned along with the pairings, but iirc some tournament software will ensure that each person gets roughly a 50/50 split over the course of the tournament.

This goes back to before there were different races, it goes back to when Man harnessed fire.

Fire, the light, kept predators away, provided warmth and protection.

It also cast dark shadows, made the night seem darker and highlighted predators eyes in the blackness.

This is the original reason all things light are considered good, and dark is considered bad. This trope keeps coming up in stories from 'Paradise Lost' to tales around a campfire.
