Does CE like their job?

https://www.usnews.com/news/economy/articles/2021-08-26/study-gen-z-millennials-driving-the-great-resignation

Workers are quitting their jobs in record numbers, with the figure approaching 3.9 million in July a hair shy of the record set in April in what has come to be known as "The Great Resignation."

But a new global study of 5,500 workers and small-business leaders finds the mass exodus is being driven mainly by members of Generation Z, those who have spent the least time in the workforce, and millennials.

The study by software and data analytics company Adobe found that more than half of Gen Z respondents reported planning to seek a new job within the next year.

The generation also reported being least satisfied with their jobs, 59%, and with their work-life balance, at 56%. Nearly two-thirds of them, 62%, said they felt the most pressure to work during "office hours," even though they said they do their best work outside of normal office hours.

Companies are facing extreme difficulty finding workers, with more than 9 million open positions nationwide. A variety of reasons have been offered for this situation, including worries about the coronavirus, responsibilities caring for children or elderly relatives, and low wages.

The study suggests the trend will continue, with 35% of workers surveyed saying they plan to switch jobs in the next year. Of that group, 61% said they would do so to exercise more control over their schedules.

Another study released this week from human resources consultants Galagher found that 72% of companies surveyed either raised or plan to raise their base salaries in 2021.

Good. One of the biggest contributing factors to the rising mental health problems are people forcing themselves to work horrible jobs with garbage pay. And for the longest time employers refused to change because no one was willing to do this. Now those same employers are struggling and suddenly they all found a way to raise wages finally.

These people running these companies are dumb as fuck. The only reason I haven't left my crappy job yet is because I'm finally eligible for benefits.

It fucking makes me angry to hear our head manager say last month "I don't understand why no one is staying." This same company has issues with communication, subpar training, shitty pay, shitty hours, old and broken equipment and supervisors that either don't give a damn or they micromanage the fuck out of the employees. He can't understand why the turnover rate sucks though.

Its not so much about getting ahead as it is not giving in. American work culture kind of beat into you that you have to stay in line and run the company line but these days younger people have a more fuck it attitude, which in some cases can be bad but in this instance its helping make positive change. We work for you. You dont own us.

Nah it really used to be about loyalty. Jobs used to have things like seniority and pensions that got better with time spent in one place and now all that is gone. Being fired used to be a really big deal because you'd have to start all over. Now being fired usually means you get a job that pays you better elsewhere because of your experience.

I don't think they thought that far ahead. They just wanted to contribute to the fuck capitalism culture now they have no way to get funds.

tik tok
twitch
site that I cannot name
ebay
instagram
etsy
youtube

you can make more than min wage today without a job "designed for highschoolers and not to live off of"

it just so happens gen z is the gen who knows how to do these type jobs the best as they grown up while these services came into existence unlike millennials and boomers.
tik tok was for awhile consider an app for kids for instance
most of this biggest streamers are under 30

etc

Many infact do these while in college instead of a min wage job, get a degree and realize they can just live off of what they been doing than a job their degree focuses on.

oh ya

-Inflation is out of control right now
-Basically nobody pays a living wage
-The general public is more hatefully rude than ever before. Its practically a national sport to pick on anyone in the service industry and stuff like TikTok plays a huge role in this by encouraging users to film workers
-Companies are short staffing. There will be plenty of people on payroll and corporate refuses to staff more than a skeleton crew because its cheaper for them, which results in overworked and underpaid workers. This gives the customer a worse experience and they, in turn, take it out on the workers
-Most places dont offer job benefits
-Workers unions dont fight for higher pay anymore, like they did for previous generations. They regulate hours and force breaks, which cuts into your pay

Whats the point in putting up with that crap if youre not making enough money to pay rent? Let it burn.

For instance people my age like renting clothes instead of owning a wardrobe. I like having a closet of MY clothes. But instead people just cycle them out and it has this sense of "I don't need anything I can just borrow."

I would say this is tangentially related to the idea that having a lot of money isn't important.

why own an outfit you'll only wear occasionally, when you can rent a nicer version than you'd ever want to buy as needed, and lounge at home in athletic clothing that is dirt cheap

why own a house if you are changing jobs every 3 years and moving to do so and the down payment would earn more invested in stocks?

why own a phone if the OS updates keep bricking anything more than a year old and the upgrade plan isn't significantly pricier?

Or they're moving to jobs that aren't the mental dredge that we've been told to "suck it up" about for decades.

The study suggests the trend will continue, with 35% of workers surveyed saying they plan to switch jobs in the next year. Of that group, 61% said they would do so to exercise more control over their schedules.

So if they can find a job with similar pay that better fits their personal schedule, more power to them.

A good majority of people no longer live in a 9 to 5 world anymore.

Nah, being fired is still not a good look. It will take you 2x as long to find a job if you admit to being fired.

Depends why you were fired. If it's for stealing or HR problems then yeah it's going to be a big deal. If you got fired because you failed a drug test lots of places won't give a shit.

And they always ask you to explain why you were fired.

Yeah I don't like my job too much, today ironically was especially shitty, but I've admitted to my immediate supervisors I'll leave as soon as something better comes up. I'd never tell the store manager or owner that, but my shift leaders are realistic.

I told one supervisor this week I would leave our restaurant immediately if the one an old coworker transfered to wasn't such a commute for me. Sucks. Idk how long I'll be here.
