Ya usually have to try a bunch until you get lucky and find one that's good for you.

It all depends how your brain works. I'm on effexor cuz I don't generate hardly any serotonin, but my mom is on something else cuz she generates normal serotonin but it doesn't absorb and just breaks down.

Tried Amitriptyline (30mg) and Duloxetine (40mg). Amitriptyline made me sleep better but none actually helped with my anxiety. Granted the dose might have been low but I just gave up on taking medication so go without. Mindfulness has been the best coping mechanism for me.

Yeah but isnt Lexapro like every day for a month before you start feeling the effects? I just need something quick to combat the tiny ass tube Ill be going into. Not to mention the loud ass sounds. Xanax seems like the best bet.

Gabapentin. It's a nerve pain medication, but it's prescribed off label to treat anxiety and some personality disorders. I like it because it works for me and isn't terribly addictive compared to other drugs.

I doubt they'll give you much choice. Likely they will give you ativan. Most anti anxiety stuff needs to be built up over a few weeks to do much so benzo's like ativan are the common choice for stuff like this since it works right away. Granted they do try to cut down on using them because they are addictive and bad to be on long term. I've had it a few times at ERs and it does work fairly well but it also made me completely forget what happened the last time I took it which scares the hell out of me. Was like 4-5 hours just disappeared completely, no memory at all but very clear memory before and after.

If the claustraphobia is a huge issue, they have open mri's as well. I hate MRI's, they take forever and they are SO loud. It's like being stuck inside a lawnmower for an hour. And they tell you to be perfectly still. How? The machine is shaking me.

Compared to a CT scan that takes like 20 seconds and is comparably quite and doesn't shake you at all I feel like MRI's need some advancements in convenience and comfort.

They also offered to put me under for one of my MRI's so that could be an option as well.

Dont most of these pills make the user fat?

i would imagine any anxiety drug that has fat gain as a side effect would be self nullifying

Do you have that backwards? I don't know this for certain, but I feel like alcohol makes most people WAY more social than they otherwise would be, while weed is liable to exacerbate anxiety.

I have smoked and drank a lot, both can cause either one. For me, both usually have positive effects but have at times caused anxiety to get worse but that's rare. Obviously everyone is different so I won't say that's the case for everyone, maybe for some people alcohol makes them anxious and not weed and vice versa. Like both made my cousin anxious but he's also a hypochondriac.

https://www.healthline.com/health/alcohol-and-anxiety#consequences

what I was referring to was the after effects when it wears off.

https://www.healthline.com/health/marijuana-and-anxiety#pros

seems that for weed it depends on the cause of anxiety.

constant use of alcohol by someone suffering from anxiety is probably more risky due to the risk of alcohol addiction.

so the yes and no is probably true but no one was able to field the question if the actual meds make you gain fat.

I've experienced all the things in both those lists, and overall I would say it's still a positive for me, but won't necessarily be for everyone as some will only get the negatives or get the negatives too much and it outweighs the positives.

As far as alcohol goes, I'm really surprised I'm not an alcoholic because of multiple factors and wouldn't advise people to use it to help with anxiety but for whatever reason it helps me to loosen up but I haven't built an addiction. I think the most days I've drank in a row is 4 then I just can't stomach the idea of drinking for a couple weeks, though I usually keep it around once a week on average and 95% of the time it's just fun and makes me forget about my anxiety for a few hours. Again, I would not recommend drinking as a way to cope with anxiety, that's not even the reason I drink, it's just more of a pleasant side effect.

From what I've seen most folk are more relaxed with alcohol than weed. Alcohol certainly helps take the edge off for me. I've never tried weed and have no plans to do so.

That's the problem. Using anything to cope with anxiety can lead to addiction. In moderation though it's fine.

Alcohol itself doesn't make me anxious. If I get too drunk and do stupid shit or don't remember if I did stupid shit, then I get anxious.
