Miss me with that "b-b-but technology and consumerism!" nonsense.

How do people do it?

Which aspect of the world do you feel is getting worse? I don't want to make any assumptions.

Getting objectively worse? I don't know about that... Poverty is decreasing, less hunger in the world, more access to education, better technology for healthcare, more convenience with electronic technology.

I mean socially speaking, I miss the days or talking over the phone before smart phones, social media and online dating.

I think it's all in the mindset. I do actually think life is getting a little bit better globally, but even if it's not, you can be part of that change to make it better, or at least your life better. You have to stay positive for you, your family and friends. We are all suffering in our own ways. Some more than others. But we aren't alone. We just have to communicate.

  • The environment's already gone to Hell and I sincerely doubt we're going to get our asses in gear when it comes to saving it
  • The economy is fucked and I have no faith in it getting better, or achieving any semblance of financial comfort
  • I have no faith in current politicians and it seems like elected officials are only getting worse and worse. I truly believe the US is either going to collapse or go through some serious inner conflicts as the years go by
  • People are becoming more hateful and divided - even when I try hard to avoid it, I'm always seeing and reading things that make me upset and make me lose faith in humanity
  • Everybody is becoming more cynical and awful; myself included
  • My hobbies and interests are stupid and I no longer find interest/fun in them
  • Technology is boring and stagnant. I don't give a shit about new phones or video games looking slightly better

Unfortunately I live in America where healthcare, at least for me, is completely inaccessible. I really don't give a shit about medical tech increasing since I'm never going to benefit from it, especially since I desperately need both physical and mental health treatment.

Electronics are becoming boring and unexciting. I really don't care about "convenience" because it's all so redundant. Nobody needs a Roomba or a Ring camera or a million different "smart" things.

I cannot make my own life better, let alone anyone else's. I used to always be optimistic and think I would go on to do great things and change the world, but I don't care anymore. I suppose it's difficult for me to reconcile with the fact that I'm just one human among 8 billion, and there's nothing special about me. I don't deserve anything.

I suppose the bold are true

Feel like your letting the media manipulate you

Other than the world becoming anti cat, and it being harder to buy a house I dont have any major complaints

In fact the shift to work from home I think is one of the best things to happen to people maybe in history?

Working from home is a sign of privilege. I'd kill for the chance to work from home but here I am, still obsessively looking for a job.

Even with people understanding how beneficial working from home can be, there are plenty of initiatives trying to encourage workers to like the idea of going back to the office. It's ridiculous.

it was absolutely a deciding factor in me quitting my job 2 months ago. There was a decision made that the support team needed to return to office for "collaboration" while other departments can continue to work from home

sure its probably a sign of privilege, but hopefully it becomes the norm in more jobs where its a possibility

wfh is also better for the environment than a lot of these green initiatives where corporations try to blame global warming on the working man while they do nothing to help, it would take so many cars off the road

Seems to me that everything you posted says more about you and your state of mind than the state of the world.

And I don't mean that in a bad way at all. Just maybe, have you considered talking to someone about how you're feeling?

Regardless of whether I even exist or not, the world's still on a downward spiral. I can't afford therapy or any kind of healthcare; both physical and mental. I've jumped through a million hoops, only to basically be told "Oops, sorry!". I can barely afford to Zoom with a psychiatrist every three months, just to be given medication I can't afford that doesn't even work. I'm too far gone, unfortunately.

What bothers me is even if I could hypothetically snap my fingers and just get better, I would still be living in a world where so many people just don't have a chance; myself included.

I live in the U.S. too. Yeah its been stressful for everyone with covid and the current political climate, and it's bringing out the worst in people. But I don't think its nearly as bad as you think it is. I mean bad shit happens on a daily basis, but on a personal level, it's not too bad. Don't let the media get to you.

We as a people/nation need to get it together with the environment and a few other things. Maybe the best way you can make a change is to go into politics?

But overall, I think the best way to go about it IMO is to focus on making ourselves busy and happy (whatever activites you do first and also helping each other out/our own local communities. Its easy to be pessimistic these days with the news, but we should probably listen to less of it.

I'm sorry to hear bout your lack of medical accessibility? Do you work?

I understand what you are saying.

But I still disagree that the world is in a downward spiral.

Many more people have a chance today than did even a few hundred years ago.

If it is as uncontrollably bad as you believe, then there is zero reason for it to suck and stress you personally so much. Just enjoy what we have and be good to people. Do not worry about tomorrow, today has enough trouble of its own.
