That was pretty much all on D&D and theyre long gone. In fact I think one of the writers who fought desperately against many of their stupid decisions is one of the showrunners on this one.

I feel the same trepidation as you, but its not all gloomy.

I've never watched Game of Thrones but literally everybody seems to have hated the finale and the only time I see people discussing it anymore is when they're mentioning how bad the finale is. Is the rest of the show decent?

The show is legendary for the first 4 seasons, then still very good for the second half. There are some major plot contrivances in the last couple of seasons, but the acting and effects remain very strong throughout.

Most of the shortcomings are the pacing and the writing in the latter half, and that's because the original author of the novels, George R.R. Martin, took literally forever to write the next book. Thus the show ran out of his material.

When it directly pulls dialogue from GRRM's writing, it can't be beat. When the show's writers try to replicate the style, it....... sometimes works.

To be fair, if its about what I think its supposed to be about, none of the people involved in those events were particularly likable either.

One thing that I find a little bit suspect is that a show called House of the Dragon, which by my assumption is supposed to be about the Dance of the Dragons from Fire and Blood, did not show us even a single shot of a dragon in its trailer.

I can't help but sensibly chuckle at the people who thought it was merely the final season that ruined GoT. Some of us had the good sense to jump off the hype train about midway through S5 and watch the trainwreck from a safer distance.

Anyway, my interest in this is lukewarm, but I'll more than likely give it a shot when it comes out.

Season 6 onward of GoT is pretty garbage. The show was easily slipping in season 5 as well. 1 - 4 are really great, though. It's a rare show that starts off with the best season then slowly and subtly gets worse with each season.

This is a prequel set hundreds of years before the main show. Its based on some events described in a histories book called Fire & Blood that is somewhat comparable to Tolkiens Silmarillion.

Same lol. On a similar note, those trailers before the trailer that are just hyper-condensed versions of the trailer that they sometimes play as the intro to the trailer also annoy me.

That said, I still haven't even watched GoT or read the books yet. I have no idea why I'm in this topic. lmao

I definitely recommend the books, I know they might seem overhyped at this point but Martin really is an incredible author.

The horse meme is quite accurate. 'Winds of Winter' (the S6 closer) was an amazing episode, and while I was personally lukewarm about 'Battle of the Bastards,' I can see why others loved it. Two bright spots in an otherwise-dismal later half of the show's run.

True, Battle of the Bastards was quite the episode to watch, but the motivations and Jon being a fucking idiot really hurt it for me.

It could have been, but really they should have cut a bunch of fluff out of eps 1 & 2 and made it a single episode. Plus its completely cheapened in retrospect by the fact that its all a slow build up tonothing but an underwhelming letdown.

I feel like Ive explained this to Gob before. But yeah, youre right, people are completely wrong about that. Not to mention the sample chapters for Winds have been around for years.

From what Ive gathered, D+D were really into the political stuff up until The Red Wedding. That event specifically is what their hearts most wanted to cover. Then they became bored afterward and never had much interest in the weirder stuff that starts to happen in the later books.

So, regardless of how much source material was left, the honorable thing would have been for them to step down and let someone who cared take the reins.
