Holding the people who lived 150 years ago to the standards of today seems wrong.

Slavery was accepted in much of the world for a lot longer than not. It still exists, sometimes even as actual slavery rather than 'almost slavery but called something else' which is actually super commonplace. I don't think this makes slavery better, at all, but it makes the people who condoned it less guilty because that's what society told them was fine and normal.

I'm just throwing this out there because one day we'll be the people from 150 years ago and things we consider normal might be reason for ridicule and loathing in the future.

The US was literally one of the last established countries to abolish slavery

I think forcing people to work for you with a lash across their backs was objectively wrong in any generation.

Not really. There are things we do now we know aren't for the best that might be abolished in the future. People usually know what is morally right, unless they are being decieved by someone more powerful or just lie to themselves for convenience.

None of us were brought up to think keeping slaves was normal and that one ethnicity is superior to another (at least I hope).

Maybe those past people were and it formed their behaviour for their adult life.

And as a matter of fact it's a lot easier to inform yourself today than it was then, not to mention modern education vs whatever passed for education then.

Obviously not because it wouldn't have been abolished. 365,000 plus Americans died to end it.
