I have a metal thing to poke the tiny button.

It boots to 4 options: normal startup, BIOS setup, Boot Menu, System Recovery.

I'm trying to get into the Boot Menu to do a system restore, but every time I select the boot menu it starts automatic repair which does nothing.

Well, every other time. Half the time it just boots up normally.

Windows 10, Lenovo IdeaPad 330s.

Apparently you can also just press Fn+F12 during booting to get into the menu as well, might be worth a shot

This is happening with Function + whatever F key is the correct one as well.

Tried booting while holding that, Shift, and just running a finger up and down the function key line, got the boot menu into automatic repair.

Edit: it is F12 for sure, thank you for that.

Ok, it finally did something different.

It sat on the Automatic Repair screen for a bit, then the Lenovo logo went away and I suddenly had an oversized cursor.

Usually that means boot menu but now Automatic Repair is actually running.

It's on Diagnosing your PC and it will accomplish nothing, it never has.

All I need is a system restore to fix this and I can't do it.

Ok so from poking around on google, I guess basically the "automatic repair" thing happens when your system files gets corrupted or basically anything else vital gets screwed up, and if your computer improperly shuts off sometimes it can bug out the repair mode and cause it to never finish (a lot of websites calling it an "automatic repair loop")

It seems like the only way out is to have a recovery USB you can boot from or your kinda sol

Thanks, but this has happened like eight times now.

I was booting it from sleep and it died, which happened before.

Finally got to the menu.

My computer just managed to boot normally once for some fucking reason.

Wouldn't let me log in normally but I pulled it off.

Reboot it from the control panel, it goes right into the menu.

Starting the restore now.

Thanks for your help, but I guess this is one of those "the computer fairies just wanted to fuck with me for six hours" thing.
