I'm not a fan. It's already very difficult for smaller streamers to get noticed, and this only makes that problem worse unless they can afford to buy their way into relevance.

Twitch already picks and chooses who gets front page and promotions and better deals, so this seems fine. If you're getting into Twitch off the bat to make money then you're doing the wrong thing anyways.

What it boils down to is that, in extreme examples, it becomes a strict race to buy boosts to promote your streams. Smaller streamers who can't afford to compete in a buying race are just out of luck against those who can.

That's the problem. Paying to boost your own stream can easily become a buying race, which makes it even harder for unknown streams to get traction unless they can afford to keep up.

There's also the fact that the streamers don't actually directly make anything off of boosts. So paying into it is essentially just feeding Twitch unless you're one of the rare few who truly does make it.

Perhaps I'm being overly critical, but I'm really not fond of such a system. I don't really stream, but it still seems really shitty to those who do.

Well as a smaller streamer I'd be ok with paying $1 or something to signal boost my stream. It's basically just marketing and advertising. ALL people who do media do it. Hell Twitter has had ways for you to pay to boost your tweets for ages, and no one is up in arms over that.

I think it's a money trap. How often do "recommendations" translate into new longterm viewership? Especially with this option now set to flood the market with other streamers buying the same promotion?

I bet most viewers will outright ignore the promoted streams knowing the slots were bought.
