TheRock1525 09/30/21 12:33:55 AM #1:	I always felt Colors was a good game compared to Generations being an amazing, and I always kind of blamed it on there being 18 acts in Generations vs. Colors being spread more out. But I think after playing Forces where they absolutely spread things far too thin, I think Colors being designed with a mixture of a few longer stages and more bite sized ones that have fun gimmicks/themes actually works out really well for it. I also have a great appreciation in using the wisps, which especially helps when you drop the mindset of "gotta finish the level as fast as possible" and do a little bit of exploring which most 3D Sonics struggle with. I also think that having the boost be a wisp powerup instead of something that can be gained through rings means you have to be more selective and thoughtful with it. Overall, I think Generations is a better designed game with a ton of thought put into it's levels, whereas Colors can be a little more hit or miss, but I think it's clicking with 34 year old me more than 23 year old me because of how I approach games now. Not necessarily the most fun or exciting gameplay. I can see avid platforming fans potentially turned off by how "on rails" a lot of the game is. It sure does have a lot of unique paths and collectibles. But as someone who dropped off Sonic after 3&K (only playing Generations and Mania), this is the sort of easy going platformer I need. It's designed simply enough, but it doesn't seem either too janky nor too "perfectly precise." I really appreciate the weird banter that comes from the intercom announcer (who may or may not be Eggman himself now that I think about it). It was the first to do the boost gameplay, and while there were some minor bugs to iron out, I thought it did a pretty good job. The Werehog was not the best, but it wasn't too terrible either. I liked to overworld a lot, and the story was appropriate for a Sonic game: not overly serious but not cringy either. By Generations they basically perfected the boost gameplay as much as possible. It was cool to see the remakes of all the levels, although in retrospect I would probably have preferred a game with new levels made in the same style. Story was basically nonexistant, and not much of an overworld to speak of either. I replayed Colors recently when Ultimate came out (although I did not play Ultimate), and honestly I enjoyed it a bit more than when it first came out. The levels are solid, but I think Sonic feels way too slippery, at least in the 3D sections. The story is cringe, but it's easy enough to ignore. I will agree with you as well that the smaller acts are something I appreciate now in my old age more than when it was new. I think the game may have been limited a bit by the Wii, I think if they had made it for 360/PS3 they may have been able to do a bit more with what I think are its physics issues. As someone who was a really big Sonic fan in the early 2000s, I almost miss the amount of Sonic games that came out back then. A lot of them were pretty bad, but a few were surprisingly fun. And it wasn't boring, at least. The last time I tried to fire up SU, I realized the issue was much much deeper than cosmetic and a few extra abilities (like climbing and gliding). Sonic did not need to be a really bad DMC clone. Two are reasonable (100% Asteroid Coaster and get through a level without collecting a ring) but I just saw that the last one is completing the Egg Shuttle.
