What?

In 1933, in the wake of the 1929 stock market crash and during a nationwide commercial bank failure and the Great Depression, two members of Congress introduced an act, known today as the Glass-Steagall Act (GSA), that would separate investment and commercial banking activities

What does "federal jobs guarantee" mean?

Government just going to invent public sector jobs if there aren't any open?

Honestly there is always something that needs fixing, our infrastructure is a joke at this point.

We bid them out to private companies that have incentive to drag it out as long as they can. I'm not really for that kind of federal employment, but as far as getting things done it could be more effecient than the current system.

...though I doubt it would actually be done right.

the big reason: they took our jerbs.

it's also to spite republican's they hate all those things especially if they try to take the guns.

Sure, but I imagine a large majority of people without a job aren't certified for repair work, industry work, building work, etc. and don't have the means or capability to learn. And I realize you were just naming one example and there'd be a lot of different programs active at once. It really doesn't sound feasible to me. The micromanaging of such programs to fit the particular unemployment group of a particular area doesn't seem like it would be possible. I'm just trying to understand the concept here. Maybe it's more complicated than that bullet-point phrasing suggests, hence me asking what it means.

I was thinking along the lines of the federal jobs acts that were done during the Great Depression. Ditch digging, construction and restoration projects etc. Such things could be applied to other sectors that the government normally contracts out.

There has been a great deal of discussion of if those programs had any actual merit and the general consensus seems to be no. The training and moreover the bureaucracy necessary for the implementation of any such projects is staggering.

Pretty much why I said I doubt anything meaningful could actually be done. But the idea of the government having employees to do the work it normally contracts out might not be a totally invalid idea. But then you would still have job loss from the disenfranchised private companies.

The entire thing pretty much gets a whatever from me.

@DeadBankerDream sorry about the delay
