The bill passed the House mainly along party lines, 218-211, with one Democrat voting with Republicans. The vote was largely symbolic as the bill is unlikely to advance in the Senate, where 10 Republicans and all Democrats would need to back the bill in order to meet the 60-vote threshold.

That's just how it is, pass legislation that has no actual chance of passing, just so you can pretend that you've done something when election-ad season rolls around again. This is why the house republicans passed a "repeal obamacare" law every other week or so near the end of the Obama administration, then mysteriously stopped when they briefly had a lock on all three legislative bodies.

Keep the filibuster, but make them actually go through with it, and be prepared to hold a vote the second that the person stops to take a break. A big part of the problem is right now if the potential for a filibuster is actually there, people just give up. See how often people have the energy to pull the maneuver off when you make them do it every single time.

I mean, actually that's literally very correct.

The alternative is do fucking nothing and absolutely tank your chances when the next election comes around. If you've at least tried to do your damn job despite being roadblocked by a broken system, then maybe people might possibly maybe be thinking that it's time to clear up the roadblocks instead of just shuffling their reps out.
