Idk what to do. I gave up liquor so it wouldnt ruin my life, but I seem to be fucking it up well enough sober. I try focusing harder on my studies but it keeps slipping through the cracks somehow. I submit an assignment, something happens. I dont click a certain button. I miss an announcement. Boom. Im unprepared for a quiz or I straight up didnt submit a 100 point assignment. Im failing two classes and its just stupid mistakes. Im putting forth the effort. I study. Im in the field doing the work. But the universe keeps one-more-thinging me, convincing me I need to drink about it. God I fucking hate this. Im on the verge of actual tears.

Get a tutor to help you stay on track if its just simple mistakes.

Its not like calculation errors. Just details when submitting.

Do you keep an agenda by any chance? I used one religiously when I was in school, and it helped me stay on top of everything.

Also just make an extra effort to double check everything. Drinking won't help you in this area at all.

sorry you're struggling. you're doing a great job by not drinking so far, keep it up. just know that if you do give in and drink it will only make things feel better temporarily, then you'll feel horrible about it the next day and regret the decision. every day you stay away it will get a little easier.

all you need to do is make it through today. worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

feel free to pm me if you ever wanna chat. i will not drink with you today.

I havent had a drink in a week, which is an accomplishment for me. I feel better, but the urge hits at the sneakiest of times.

Check out r/stopdrinking. Even just lurking can be really helpful but there's a ton of support if you want to participate. No judgment, no particular approach. It helped me a lot.

I also recommend a book called This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. It goes over a lot of the habit formation of alcohol addiction. Not too science-y and a pretty easy read but it was incredibly beneficial to me. She also has videos on youtube but I think they're more supplemental to the book.

The cravings do pass and this gets a bit easier with time. Keep it up. You're doing great.

There is a lot of good news here. You haven't had a drink in a week. Congrats! The problems you are having with school are fixable, mostly with staying organized, and not related to if you can handle it. You are putting in the work. You are making an effort. It isn't hard to get yourself organized if you can commit to 15 minutes a day (if that) to stay on top of things.

Others have already given you good tips. A planner is great for staying on top of things and when they are due. Add a periodic reminder on there to check for any announcements you may have missed. Make sure you are paying attention to announcements in class and checking your school email on a regular (multiple times per day) basis. When you submit an assignment online, immediately email the professor/TA saying you submitted it and ask if they received it. Introduce yourself and talk to your professors/TAs in person during their office hours. If you tell them that you have had problems with online submittal and want to verify, they generally will give you some slack and help make sure your stuff gets in (unfortunately some are just assholes though).

Thank you guys for the support and advice. It feels pretty lonely out here at times. Especially around people who dont get addiction.
