At the very least the small mom and pop places need to be able to compete on a level playing field, it's insane how big companies will actually get breaks to make life easier for them over small independent people.

We can at least talk about how wrong it is, and hopefully more voters become aware of it.

The first step to fixing a problem is acknowledging it.

Sorry about that. Cynicism reflex kicked in.

The first meaningful step will be ending TIF and its clones, as a concept. All it does it encourage localities to jack up tax rates, then "helpfully" cut out an exception for some well-connected developer who's "revitalizing" the part of town that's already built up.
The better idea would be to keep tax levies at levels where developers want to build there, instead of being fished in with a sweetheart deal that never pays off, while everyone else is stuck holding the bag.
