It's too complicated with the multiple moveset from kirby superstar system they've been using.

This. People seemed to prefer Super Star's approach to powers than the Dark Matter trilogy's, so Hal has been sticking with that.

That feature was not at all beloved lol. Half the combined powerups were not good

Playing as a fridge or rock was hilarious though. All part of the Kirby appeal.

Squeak Squad did it in a clever way. Only certain abilities could combine, mostly sword and elementals iirc.

You could tell some of the abilities in 64 were a result of "what the hell does bomb and ice make?"

Not to be that guy, but Nintendo doesn't make or even own Kirby :\

As weird as it sounds, Kirby is 2nd party, and would arguably count as 3rd party if HAL and Nintendo weren't such besties.

Yeah, Kirby is kind of weird like that, same with Nintendo and Pokemon. Nintendo I think does have some kind of ownership over Kirby, but they don't own HAL so I'm not 100% sure of how Kirby's ownership actually plays out. However, HAL seems more willing to let Nintendo use Kirby in general Nintendo marketing than TPC is with Pokemon, so I guess there's that.

It's funny to think that for as much as people think of Kirby as a classic Nintendo IP, Kirby is actually less of a Nintendo IP than Xenoblade is, which Nintendo owns 100%.

Yeah, Kirby 64's mixing was very creative but it's also a product of its time. Back when copy abilities were one move and there were very few of them; only 6 base copy abilities compared to the 20+ that every other game has.

Never played it, wasn't sure, so I didn't include it.

Speaking of old mechanics. I wish they would bring back Kirby pulling out inhaled, but not swallowed, enemies and items to throw or use.

Like in 64 you could pull out umbrella enemies and glide with them, I wanna say spiky enemies protected his head too.

You could also throw them to combine powers on the fly.

It's pointless to be "that guy" considering Kirby has been exclusively associated with Nintendo since the outset

Kirby is co-owned by Nintendo. Based on past usage of the character, they have more of a stake in it than they do with Pokemon.

every time they try, they end up making the base abilities boring as fuck to encourage the use of combined versions
