Nintendo I think does have some kind of ownership over Kirby, but they don't own HAL so I'm not 100% sure of how Kirby's ownership actually plays out. However, HAL seems more willing to let Nintendo use Kirby in general Nintendo marketing than TPC is with Pokemon, so I guess there's that. I wish they would bring back Kirby pulling out inhaled, but not swallowed, enemies and items to throw or use. Like in 64 you could pull out umbrella enemies and glide with them, I wanna say spiky enemies protected his head too.
