It means capitalism with the goal of improving people's lives instead of corporate greed as its underlying function. Which, of course, is total antithetical bullshit which makes no sense whatsoever. In a free and open market that rewards profits above all else, there will always be someone willing to pay less, outsource for child/slave labor, use destructive yet more profitable manufacturing methods, etc. and so on. There's no way to do capitalism without it being a race to the bottom, it's just an oxymoron.

Indeed. When considering what Yang means by it, it's important to remember his plan was to scrap(or was it just a choice? That would be less monstrous, to be fair) most current social welfare programs and "replace" them with his UBI plan.

The way he had it set up you could opt to take the UBI payments instead of your current welfare plans, but you weren't forced to go one way or the other. Part of his breakdown for how he would fund it was the expectation that some percentage of people would take the cash which would result in reduced overhead costs for those other agencies.

I still don't see what makes it "monstrous", though. If you say poor people are bad with money people get angry at you, but if you propose getting rid of structured plans in exchange for a flat check people act like the recipients will end up a starving or something. The idea of giving people the same amount they would have received, only with fewer restrictions, and without the need for massive government bureaucracies to manage it seems fine on paper. The only way it would be a bad idea is, again, if you believe that the recipients would blow their money on things they don't need and end up destitute.

But what if that amount of money is insufficient regardless of the restrictions?

Then they would still be receiving no less than they did before? I don't understand the question. If I give you $10 on a card that can only work on three brands of food and is managed by an agency, or alternatively I just give you $10, you're getting the exact same amount either way but with more freedom of choice. The only difference is is that I don't then have to pay an office full of workers to manage that card program.

Was more just wishful thinking of hoping the GOP would fuck off the face of the earth and we'd have Democrats and this party. :(
