I mean, that's half true I guess, cause who would think that this convoluted shit where 43 cents translates to prison time could possibly be real

The full amount?

WrkHrdPlayHrdr posted...
The reason it wasn't enough is because 2 for $3 DOES NOT MEAN 1 for $1.50 which is fucking stupid.
Well, duh, have you never shopped anywhere before? You get the discount when you buy 2, buying 1 is full price.

WrkHrdPlayHrdr posted...
Why did he have to slap money on the counter? Because that gas station can't get enough people working for it so there probably wasn't someone at the counter. I live by it.
So you wait.

Yep, want to stop crime? Be extremely harsh with your punishments. See two guys fighting inside of sporting event over some trivial thing? Put both of them in prison for a decade, no questions ask. Have illegal substances on you? Go to prison for a decade, no questions asked. Drunk driving even if you didn't hurt anyone? Prison for life. Kill anyone for any reason? Execute them, no questions asked.

The country is too damn soft when it comes down to crime, it's sickening.

Thats fine, but nobody should be out to jail for 1o years over 40 cents.

That's not working. 3 strikes is a failure. Death penalty is a failure. Criminalizing drugs is a failure. Out of all the western countries, US is among the top for the longest prison sentences.

That's basically going to lead to a totalarism government. Wonder how much has Duerte's government killed for taking drugs. Nobody should have to live in fear, especially for small petty crimes.

What we should be doing is spend more money on rehabilitation for offenders. Make prison a little more livable and teach them valuable skills.
Maybe invest more on low income and homeless population, as well as veterans.

I do find it hilarious that those that typically support very strict punishment from the government--but as soon as their rights are infringed upon in an effort to save others lives, they don't want to be a part of it.

Though the idea of taking merchandise without properly checking out is pretty suspect.
Happens literally every day in retail. I would be standing there and someone would drop a five and just walk out not caring about change or anything

And let's say he did do this on purpose. Who gives a fuck. Know what the gas station is going to lose. Nothing but a little bit a profit which will be made up elsewhere. Hell that probably was still profit for them based on the mark up. When I was young and people would just walk out with sodas I would tell managers and know what they said "Don't worry about it. It doesn't matter" and this was every retailer

The people saying that it's fair for him to spend even one day in jail is what's wrong with america and why it's seen as a joke country

I am fairly confident that in my state there is an actual law that says you have to display the full price or it is automatically the lower price. So if there is a 2 for $3 sticker then the cost for one would be $1.50 unless there is a sign stating otherwise. I'm pretty sure it was put into effect because of situations like this exactly happening to often.

What I want to know though is how did the clerk know a soda was taken? If they weren't at the register and then just saw two dollars on the counter, how did they know what item it was for and that there wasn't enough money?

Perhaps this wasn't the first time he shorted the store and they'd had enough. The vast majority of clerks or managers aren't going to bother with cops over a one time small shortage like that. Repeat offenders though, eventually the cops are getting involved.

Reminds me of a story 15 years ago where a sherriff who was pissed that jails had color TVs. He thought it was a luxury inmates didn't deserve and insisted on B&W TVs. No one manufactured new B&W TVs anymore, so they had to buy used ones for an arm and a leg. It was way more expensive than if they had just replaced them with new color TVs.

Gives you an idea of the type of people behind the justice system.

Yeah. Nobody wants the count on their drawer to be off but is it really worth the fucking hassle to call the cops over $0.43? I guaranfuckingtee you that there was more than that laying under mat in the store somewhere. It's so much easier to just eat that (or not; if they fire you for being off by $0.43 at a gas station then honestly, fuck them) than call the goddamn cops over a damn misunderstanding. That's just using the system to be incredibly petty regardless of the dude's past (which I'm presuming said clerk didn't know).

It wasn't sales tax so much as a dumb bulk buy deal. They advertise 2 for $3. Guy assumes that means 1 is $1.50 and gives $2. When actually because he didn't get 2 he doesn't get the discount and has to pay the full price, which isn't covered by $2.

Oh he is oe of those stupid people. Yeha a lot of times people can't read signs. Saw a dude read a sign

BUY 1
GET ON FOR A $1

He read that is get one for a dollar. He told me the snickers were a dollar. Had to exam to him the sign. This happens with a lot of people, our population is stupid beyond belief when they can't read simple sales signs. I don't claim the person, but our education system has obviously failed too many.
