Question

Covid has killed and affected many people...but how has it affected your mental health?

Ever since covid started, I started working from home. It's okay, but honestly, it has affected my mind. I feel lazier, I feel like I don't socialize enough, I'm on my butt a lot. I'm constantly on gamefaqs. I feel like my mind is rotting.

I picked up an additional diagnosis since it started but I'm honestly not sure if it is related to the change in environment due to the virus.

In the fact that it created labor shortage and is making me work 60 hours a week.
But I guess you could put a lot of that on corporate greed as well.

I took and take care of people who had it, seen some die with it. My family and myself had and survived it first-hand. None of my residents, co-workers, or my family have it now, but it's still affecting everyone I know one way or another.

You know what's fucked? My mental health is great. Ever since work from home began, I've gotten less angry from traffic, happier with more free time, and more comfortable by being able to work from home and basically isolate aside from seeing my girlfriend and going to the grocery store.

I would say that my social anxiety has significantly increased. The idea of being perceived is pretty daunting? I dont know if that makes sense.

By proxy.

My mental health hasn't been affected by the virus itself, but almost certainly by the people who have been willfully ignorant and hateful with regards to the virus. We've opened up doors to new worlds of disinformation -- the government is lying to you about the virus, the government is lying to you about all vaccines, the government has a cult of child-molesting blood drinkers, etc.

If tomorrow saw the final new case of COVID, we would still have to deal with all of the people who have rallied together and been galvanized by a mutual distrust of "the media" and a common disregard for human safety.

I have never been so pessimistic and hateful. Beating a pandemic is teeball and yet society has swung and missed and thrown the bat into the bleachers.

Oddly enough for the better. I have used this year and a half to improve my drawing skills. I love to draw but never really tried to improve what little talents I had. These last eighteen months however have been me improving my skills, taking online courses, reading books and getting better. Improving my drawing has improved my mental health.

Right. So, imagine walking into a room that has a bunch of people in it. The door makes a sound as it closes and they all turn to look at you. Before you entered the room they did not perceive you, but now you are being perceived. And while you have some control over that perception, what parts of you are perceived with your appearance and behavior, youll never fully know or understand what other peoples perceptions of you are.

I find this unnerving.

Honestly no.

I worked through the pandemic (I was one of those eSsEnTiAl FrOnTLiNe HeRoEs) and it was stressful for sure, but, fuck it, retail (especially grocery retail, especially for the company I was working for) is always stressful.

Ive always been very adaptable and able to deal with stuff like this, so, life goes on. I do my best to keep myself and the ones I care about safe and so far so good.

I don't think so. I was pretty reclusive before and I am now too. It probably has affected in it little ways, maybe I'm less confident than I was, I'm not sure. In terms of stress or low moods though? Not at all.

I actually work with someone on kind of mental health stuff, and whenever I had concerns about my mental health, she would brush it off with "yeah, the pandemic is getting to everyone right now". Not to me it's not! I had problems before the pandemic and I have problems now. She kept brushing it off until I went to a doctor and even then she said "and the doctor didn't say anything about the pandemic?".

Turns out I probably have ADHD. But yeah, it was "just the pandemic getting to me".
