Its like 160 calories for a can of coke. You could drink like 10 cans a day and still lose weight (if you ate nothing else)

why is everyones first suggestion to cut out soft drink when starting to lose weight when its bugger all of your calories

Because some people just drink soda instead of water to stay hydrated. As in, that's all they drink.

Water is zero calories and helps regulate your metabolism while actually hydrating you

Coke does none of those things

This thread made me look at the can of beer I'm currently drinking. 99 calories it says BIG AND BOLD on the front for 12oz even though it's clearly a 16oz can..

I don't want to do math but I feel like my beer is still lower in calories than Coke. I'll take the beer.

Because it's used as a drink, not a meal replacement. If you replace it flavored drinks with water for every meal, you already saved yourself 480 calories.

Because a lot of people probably aren't over eating if you subtract the extra calories in the sodas they consumes.

Carbs are already added into the calorie total. Sugars are carbs and are added into the carb total, which is added into the calorie total.

Calories are the main thing that determines if you body loses weight. Either it has excess to store or it needs to use what it has stored.

That said, weight loss and health are not the same thing. So, you can drink nothing but coke and lose weight. You will be in poor health though.

Sorry. The point I was trying to make. Eating shitty sugar and carbs is not going to help and make you feel more hungry.

The type of calories matter. 100% carbs, but refined carbs. Coke is all sugar. That shit will spike your blood sugar.

Having a coke every now and then is okay, but if you have health problems or a family history of diabetes, then I would stay clear from all drinks with high sugar content. Also it matters how much food you consume in one setting

  1. Liquid calories are not satiating
  2. Sugary calories are not satiating
  3. There is almost nothing of nutritional value in that can
  4. These drinks are designed especially to make you consume more of them
  5. Sugar does weird shit to your blood insulin levels which ultimately tends to effect fat loss in a negative way
  6. 160 calories is a fucking lot in the grand scheme of things. That's 160 calories that has contributed NOTHING to your diet in any positive way. A small woman only has like, 1200 calories to work with.
In summary, people say cut out the soda because it's generally the easiest, most low-effort, high reward change anyone can make to your diet. That's now 160 calories you could have put towards a chicken breast or something that is filling, nutritious and satisfies your hunger.

Is that why everytime I'm thirsty my tongue demands the sweet bubbly release that only a soda can provide?

Yep

If you went cold turkey for like 2-4 weeks your tastes would change and you'd realise that that shit is actually foul

160 calories on it's own, isn't a lot. I love it weight loss companies try to make a huge deal about eating a 200 calorie meal and saying it takes an hour to burn at the gym, without any context. . It all depends how much you eat through out the entire day. Spacing your meals, having the right amount of portions and the quality of the calories matter a lot. If you're relatively healthy, a 160 calorie junk food/chest snack isn't going to harm you too much.

Of course if you eat something that you know will spike your sugar, like a big meal or a high sugar food, then exercise is definitely the best thing you can do to reduce the side effects vs sleeping it off. This is particularly more troublesome for people with blood sugar problems.

Also I personally think 1200 calories is ridiculously low, even for women. but if a 5 foot 90-100lb woman needs to eat that to lose weight temporarily, that's understandable I guess. But they could also increase exercise to lose weight to eat more as well.

My point was that 160 calories of something that is nothing but sugar is a lot of wasted space in your diet
