It is almost an assured minority government.

hot take... I hate the Canadian election process. I don't know how it works down in the states, but the Canadian Prime Minister election process is such a fucking ridiculous process.

Lets assume I wanted to vote Jagmeet Singh in. He's running the NDP or New Democratic Party. I can't just go into a polling station and vote for Jagmeet Singh, I have to vote for the NDP elective in my area.

So if for example, Jon Smith was running for the PC party in my area and I have a great relationship with him, I have to ignore that and vote for Sally Smith who I might hate, all because she is part of the NDP; and that's how the voting gets tallied.

The most number of elected officials to parliament decides who becomes Prime Minister. It's such a stupid process.

I mean, in the US you vote for President, House of Representatives, Congress, and Senate.

That seems like a lot of political bodies to run the country at the national level.

I guess it's because of being developed before easy access to information (phone, internet, TV, etc.). Before modern days, you would vote for the person to represent you and your community in Ottawa. Nowadays, it doesn't really matter, because MP's are mostly just there as seat warmers for their party leader.

So this election process made sense back in the day, but is now archaic and needs to be changed. However it won't be, because it benefits whichever party is in power.

In Canada, we elect a local representative of the running parties. Whoever get the majority vote, will win a seat in the Parliament. Whichever house has the most seats gets elected Prime Minister. But wait...there's more. Much like how in the states each state holds a certain amount of influence towards who gets elected President, the same is done in Canada. So you take where I'm from, Newfoundland. We get the set amount of seats in Parliament.

The issue lies in that the 4 East Coast provinces essentially don't matter in any election. We only control 32 seats, which is only good when the polls are neck and neck. Take our previous Prime Minister, who btw I fucking hate because he was a goofy dipshit far far worse than Justin Trudeau. Trudeau is a saint compared to that asshole. Stephen Harper was a scourge on our country for nearly 9 years, who took over shortly after my personal favorite Prime Minister Jean Cretien left office in 03. We had Paul Martin in between who wasn't bad.

Harper continued to win because he focused his campaign on Alberta(34 seats), BC(42 seats) and I believe Ontario(121 seats), meaning the rest of the country suffered as those 3 provinces prospered.

It's a very flawed system. I don't know how to change it, but it essentially means you can just ignore any province with less than 15 seats and focus on the bigger provinces making promises you'll never keep.

It's flawed because the amount of population we have is not anywhere near equal. If you look at the population demographics, Quebec, Ontario, and BC combined I think have well over half the population of Canada.
