So I just once again was unable to make Windows' network folder sharing work reliably. We've got basically 2 laptops and a desktop that need this ability. There's never a guarantee that one computer will see another one even if the reverse works. While trying to troubleshoot I read stuff suggesting that Microsoft has been trying to phase out the feature to replace with OneDrive or something. Is there a way to make it actually work, or any alternative way to have full access to folders on one computer from one of the others?

That seems less practical across 3 different computers than it would be otherwise. Apparently there's been a breakthrough as a pinned folder on one laptop still works despite the drive not being visible. So we just need one for each connection.

Seems like entering an IP address for that purpose brought it right up. I don't know why Windows has to make it difficult. And the troubleshooting steps I found were like messing with the registry and command line stuff and there were way too many to try them all after the first few had no effect.
