He promised in 2015 that he would eliminate the first past the post method of which he didn't do as promised in his platform as all parties couldn't agree on how to change voting. Under a ranked choice ballot, which is also used in some american states such as Maryland and Massachusetts, electors would mark their first, second and subsequent choices. If no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote, the contender with the fewest votes get dropped and their supporters second choices are then counted until one emerges as a majority. NDP prefer a mixed member proportional representaiton where voters make 2 choices on a ballot. one candidate to represent them locally and one for a party, similar to that of the United States voting. The Greens however want proportional representation to be inclusive of all parties that get votes While the Conservatives want to stick to the status quo and remain the first past the post voting.
