It seems not good? But everyone seems to rave about it. The dialogue is corny, theres not much of a narrative hook or stakes for me to get invested in yet. Theres a lot of weird stuff happening but nothing that actually gets me to want to see what happens next. Like its almost too weird too quickly and the characters are dull. I dunno. Ive heard something called the ash maze is cool but who knows if Ill ever see it.

I played it at launch. Loved the story and art, hated the combat. I stopped playing after getting stuck on a boss battle.
Eventually they added an easy mode and I just used that to see the rest of the story

It's not good, just a vastly overrated tech demo. That's why it sold only 2 million copies despite being THE marketing tool for NVIDIA's RTX cards and being released on 5 platforms.

Not very far at all, so Im expecting people will say it gets better, and I probably will play at least a bit more, but I dont expect the things Im complaining about will change, yknow? Seems kinda baked in.

That's nothing for a mass market game, or killer app. And like i said it's released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and a cloud version on the Switch.

It was made to show off DLSS and Ray Tracing, nothing much else. All Remedy games are tech demos with not much at all built up around them. And the gameplay is always awful, but they're always overrated to hell and back.

Not yet, but this post did remind me that I bought this game on sale ages ago partly because someone mentioned how fun/cool it was. So I kinda spoiled myself and looked up the ashtray maze just now. Im intrigued! I just cant stand the story. This isnt something I would normally do but can I just skip through the cutscenes?

As psychological horror games go, it's not bad. The transforming gun is cool, and once you unlock telekinesis, it becomes hysterical fun. The television shows, and radio broadcasts are creepy af.

It is one of those games that i was holding off till i got a strong enough gpu to play at near max settings at 4k. Im currently using a 2080ti for reference.

Unfortunately i didnt realize that gpus would be out of stock so quickly and i dont really care that much to keep track of them.

One day ill play it tho once this gpu shortage stuff is fixed lol

I liked it. I like tight TPS's. Ones where bullets feel like they actually have impact and it focuses heavily on accuracy. Remnant is another good example of it. I thought the story was interesting and the graphics were pleasing. I didn't like how confusing it was to pick back up if you didn't play for awhile tho.

I got it to see ray tracing. I got up to the first boss and quit because it was just NOT FUN. The map was also a real pain to navigate, and as an SCP veteran from when it wasn't really on the internet's radar, the anomalous stuff up to what I played wasn't super impressive to me.

the gameplay and enemy variety stops evolving early in the game, so it ends up feeling really repetitive.

and as far as the story goes, yea weird stuff happens, but when the lead doesn't seem phased by it, it doesn't feel as interesting, IMO - she just comes off as weird as the stuff going on around her, and some of the revelations lack impact because of it.

but I say all of this without having played the DLCs, so I dunno if they change any of those things.

Nah, those two aspects remain mostly the same. The AEW one adds a boss monster and a new type of Hiss, but I don't think I'd have noticed the new Hiss if it hadn't made a new journal entry. IIRC, it's just a shooter guy that flies.

I personally thought the game was mediocre. The combat became repetitive pretty fast and I couldnt get invested into the story much personally.

I think I'll play through the game again after Alan Wake Remastered comes out, just because I was able to get Control complete version on PSN (because I'm interested in the Alan Wake DLC that connects the two), but after that, I don't think I'll ever play it again.

I play it on an rx5700 at 1080, and it's fine.
