I mean it was so much fun the first month or two but the game has been out a year and a half and the shop still sells the same 3 items over and over on a single floor didnt the one in the GameCube version have like 2 or 3 stories?

It did have two stories, but the second floor only had like 4-6 furniture items, if memory serves, and the first floor was all other items. The GC shop generally felt better, though, because the GC version had significantly fewer items to collect. That meant that the odds of seeing the item you wanted were generally much higher.

I liked it. It kept me mentally sane in the early months of the pandemic. There will never be a video game that released at a more appropriate time than that one.

But I will admit that it's disappointing that the shop still hasn't been upgraded, and that we don't have the coffee shop. The ability to customize your island is awesome but you don't unlock it until like 50 hours into the game.

The "one save file per Switch" rule is also absolute total bullshit.

It's weird too because there's stuff in the code that is just not in the game. Like bigger and more stores, more items, more things to collect, etc. etc.

Really enjoyed it for a few months at the beginning of the pandemic too. It's still a great game. But yeah, the store only having one upgrade is really silly.

I never played AC before so I really enjoyed it but I did hear a lot about stuff that was in older games. I guess maybe they wanted it to be more streamlined in that sense, and put the focus on crafting and terraforming. Those are two pretty big additions, and they definitely got old after a while, but it's hard for me to picture going back to an AC game without them. The anticipation of seeing random items is more fun than crafting I have to say but at least they didn't totally remove that

That's super impressive actually. Redd's store has only shown up like 3 times for me.

I thought so too at first, but you get to rate the buyer & seller after a transaction and lots of people have 5 out of 5 ratings

As long as you steer clear from 0 star rated people and those offering valuables for free, you should be good :)

If you liked previous Animal Crossing games, you'll like this one.

If you share your Switch with anyone, don't bother unless you're cool with both of you having a reduced experience with the game.

The game is different from previous Animal Crossing games in that it takes a LONG time to start opening things up. I was absolutely hooked for about two months but if you're not willing to be committed to it, you might find the first 20 to 30 hours of gameplay, and the first week of real time, lacking.

If you're sharing a Switch with her, it probably isn't worth it for either of you. Your niece would probably love the game on her own though.

Have you played Stardew Valley? That's about as close to Animal Crossing as I can think. AC is much more simple, though.

If you think you'd enjoy a game where the objective is just to run around a small island, gather raw materials, build tools like a fishing rod or bug catching net, try to fill your fish and bug catching journals, sell them for money to expand and decorate your house, all while building relationships with your animal neighbours, then go for it.

It was very addicting for me, and I've put around 200 hours into it. The only Switch game I've played longer is Breath of the Wild, which had a three year headstart.

We don't share Switches.

I like the Sims so should like something like this.

Currently playing that now. That is also my first Zelda game although I only bought a switch a few months ago so I have many game I'd want to try on the system.
