Just skimmed through this. More people than we realize are going to die because of antivaxers getting sick and taking up valuable resources.

I'll wait for a proper source (since I've seen a lot of nonsense online about this sort of thing before), but obviously it'd be awful if true. It doesn't seem quite right to me tbh (the initial claim).

What else are they supposed to do? The number of sick people is so great that they actually do not have enough equipment and staff to treat them all. Its no longer possible. They have to make these tough choices.

Im surprised people arent making a bigger deal out of this.

I think its actually good and normal that I have the freedom to die senselessly in an accident, simply because they dont have a bed at the hospital for me. I think it rocks.

Yeah but you wouldnt just put a blanket ban on CPR. You might do triage depending on the situation but a blanket ban is ridiculous and I find it very hard to believe.

Whats hard to believe about it? The article I posted laid it out pretty clearly. When someone codes, it takes a lot of staff time and resources. Neither of which is readily available in Idaho any longer. They do not have the resources to tend to a code. They do not have the staff to tend to a code. Theyre prioritizing the people that are most likely to survive and if someone is coding, then its doubtful they will.

So... how do we get past this, as a society? If covid never goes away fully, and becomes a superflu of sorts that doesn't really have a season, how do we return to anything resembling life as we once knew it?

I think we will have unprecedented low levels of health care workers in coming generations of workers because who would want to enter the field when it's like this? The rich have made no sacrifices to aid in improving our situation. I feel like our quality of life is going to just continue to shrivel away.

It will take awhile, but it will end with hundreds of thousands of dead Americans. Mainly those who didnt want the vaccine.

The problem is that vaccinated Americans and those who arent denying Covid are dying because of those who arent vaccinated and are denying Covid. This current story is a perfect example of that.

Over time it'll almost certianly become less of a threat. Not on the scale of "drop all restrictions, ignore the vaccine, and in a few months it won't be a problem" like anti-vaxxers claim, but more on the scale of a decade or two (and millions, if not billions, of deaths) down the track - vaccines could possibly help that be sonoer, and could definitely help it be with less deaths. Far worse pandemics have fizzled out in the past - and in particular, the 1890 "flu" pandemic is a good one to look at for parallels (when you figure out why it in particular is of interest here, you'll understand why flu is in quotes).

I was referring specifically to the Twitter source in the first post. The sources in the prior two posts were posted as I was replying.

If those sources back up the exact claim in the opening post (i.e. that no adult is being resuscitated in any hospital in Idaho), then I'm obviously not going to argue.

They need to place unvaccinated adults on a lower priority when doing Triage. If an antivaxxer is dying of covid and a vaccinated person is having a heart attack, the heart attack victim should get priority

If they arrive in the ER at the same time and there's only 1 bed left that's exactly what will happen.

Otherwise it's pretty much first come first serve. You can't kick people out of beds once they're in them.

They should test for the vaccine upon entry to the hospital. If no vaccine is detected, DNR. Simple.

There shouldn't be a blanket DNR considering people with illnesses and accidents they can't avoid are already getting screwed over by anti vaxxers as it is

Actually according to my article, that is not true. They do not take vaccination status into consideration when scoring the patients.

Not sure what you would call it.

No. I'm saying everywhere in the world nurses triage patients when there aren't enough resources to treat them all. The shortage is usually medical staff themselves.
