For me and I guess for others, having a lecture is very good. And in my case, I don't want to know too much. I know enough. So just Novel is great.

Solid aphorisms I think are definitely where it's at. (As opposed to just reading long-form tracts/treatises). I'd say it helps to have them written down, though maybe hearing them from somebody else randomly would help them strike home better at first.
